4.0 out of 5 stars Practical wisdom for the challenges of married life February 4, 2011
Lisa and David Frisbie are passionate about helping relationships thrive. Whether they're speaking (or writing) to singles or married couples, they have a heart for helping others whose hearts have been broken. In their newest resource, BECOMING YOUR HUSBAND'S BEST FRIEND, the Frisbies open with an insightful introduction that allows today's readers to better understand how today's man and woman view marriage. Culturally speaking, it is often rare to find couples saying and believing "till death do us part." Rather, many are soon thinking that once the marriage vows are spoken, "If it's not working, I'll just start over..." Not only are fewer people staying married longer than five or 10 years, second and third marriages are dissolving within a few years at a rampant rate.

Thus the birth of this book, which offers women wise and practical recommendations for building strong, time-tested marriages with their spouses. Women in fact are generally the ones who take the first step to repair and strengthen a hurting marriage, so with this in mind, the Frisbies offer women the tools to roll up their emotional sleeves and get to the hard work at hand. In this two-part resource, readers first will be challenged as the authors gently ask them to introspectively look into their own hearts and be willing to change as God directs and the Holy Spirit enables.

Specifically, these heart-change topics include: should the focus be on fixing one's spouse, or discovering what makes a woman do what she does; the hidden dangers of unspoken expectations; what a woman doesn't see in herself (unconscious pride, the power to destroy, unrelenting criticism); when it's better to say nothing at all (unhelpful gossip) and the elephant in the room, unresolved bitterness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy Two, Give One ! December 28, 2010
If you're a wife --- fasten your seatbelt before you read this new book!

I thought I was prepared. I thought the topic sounded kind of "safe" and "interesting."
I wasn't ready for this book.

This is a book about how God changes marriages --- RADICALLY changes marriages --- including making good marriages better and healthy marriages stronger. It is also about how God takes "troubled" or "difficult" marriages and brings a 180-degree turnaround.

I guess I won't give away the secrets here. The subtitle says something about secrets. WOW.

After you've finished reading even one or two chapters, you'll want to give this book to every wife you know.
You may want to "buy two, give one" or if you can afford it "buy ten, give nine."

I think women's groups are going to be studying this book for a long time.

I'm still reading this book --- and it is changing me from the inside out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope for Any Marriage December 30, 2010
Wouldn't it be nice to sit down with sound counselors and get their advice about your marriage? Well, you get that and more in this wonderfully positive and practical book by the Frisbies. I like how they share their experiences and real life examples from their many years of counseling. They share wisdom that is so needed in families today. Can marriage be forever? Is there hope when your marriage isn't going your way? The Frisbies show you why the answer is yes. It's a great book if you're starting out or if you've been married for decades.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening January 25, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was such an eye opener for me. I realized my behaviors were not giving me the outcome I had been hoping for and how destructive they actually were. I wish this book had been around 10 years ago when I was first married so I could have established better habits from the beginning. However, the good news is God can still use where I am now and transform me to the wife I want to be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable and Relevant Help for Every Marriage! December 29, 2010
By PW2000
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have read many of the Frisbies' books and they are always so helpful and so practical! You will find yourself saying over and over again, "That's exactly right!" when they describe the issues you're facing in your marriage, and then you'll find ways to actually make a difference in your marriage. I recommend this book for every wife or wife-to-be. You'll want it on your nightstand right next to "The Soul-Mate Marriage" and "The Power of a Praying Wife." This book is a blessing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Insight! February 3, 2011
By Kris
I devoured this book! If you ever wanted to attend a relationship counseling session without really having to be there, "Husbands" is a MUST READ for you. The funny thing is, it's not about husbands at all. It is about how women think and react to married life and how that impacts the relationship. The colorful narrative beginning each chapter sets the scene and pulls you into the full emotional setting of the counseling session. Lisa and David get to share decades of experience listening to husbands and wives from a miraid of cultures, societies and countries around the world.
The authors don't shy away from either their own faith or the most troubling aspects that face many couples with which they minister. More than pastoring, these experts fully share their hearts and keen observations in a direct approach. I find it exceptional that David and Lisa can bring the reader into appling their message to all sorts of relationships, not just marriage.
It was a very comfortable and gentle way to feel included in a counseling session without being intrusive. Hearing the counselors' prayers, encouragement, as well as concerns, kept a good perspective. There was a very nice balance in sharing the counselors' input with hearing from the family member.
Best of all, David and Lisa never get in the way of God's Grace.
