Product Description

Bed Fan with Wireless Remote. Bed Fan: a better way to cool off at night! Kicking the sheets to the end of the bed? Try Bed Fan. It tucks between the top and bottom sheets to cool your body-the source of the heat-instead of the entire house. More effective and efficient than traditional cooling methods, which only affect the air outside the sheets, you can turn off the AC and save on cooling costs. Bed Fan disperses built-up body heat with a cool, refreshing breeze between the sheets. Perfect for couples with different preferences! Some people sleep hot under only a sheet. Others want layers of blankets. And there are others who sleep hot and cold - they're often convicted in the morning of stealing the covers or kicking them to the bottom of the bed. Bed Fan to the rescue. It sits at the foot or side of the bed and keeps cool, fresh air moving between your top and bottom sheets. Position the Bed Fan to one side, or in the middle for both sleepers. Or buy two - one for each of you. Choose your level of cool with the wireless remote. Bed Fan's wireless remote sits on the nightstand for easy-to-reach adjusting. Powered by 2 AA batteries (not included), the wireless remote is backlit upon touch so you can see it as you adjust it at night. It controls the powerful dual fans that move up to 680 feet of air a minute dispersing built-up body heat under the sheets. You'll sleep comfortably all night long as the Bed Fan blows a refreshing breeze. If you wake up too warm, simply adjust the fan with the wireless remote. Twist the top to increase or decrease the fan's intensity. With the remote at your bedside, you can adjust it without getting out of the covers-helping you get back to sleep faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent upgrade from the original bed fan July 20, 2012

I bought a bed fan about 6 months ago on Amazon, which is not made near as nice as this one, and was almost as expensive. The remote control is a huge plus, especially for when you are half asleep and need to turn down the air flow. There is a filter cover for the fan, as well as adjustable height settings. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Going though menopause..... hot flashes galore. This fan has been a life saver at night.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's what you expect... a fan and not your savior July 11, 2012

I just got mine in and it preforms as expected. Had a little trouble with it straight out of the box, but that was on me (took 2xAA batteries straight out of the freezer and it didn't work at first). I called Brookstone's customer support (<1 min of ringing) and they offered me to print out the shipping receipt to send it back; instead I asked if I could take it to a local Brookstone for an exchange and they were ok with that. After I brought it in they were willing to replace my 'defective' unit right away, but I asked them to check it first to see if it was user error. It worked flawlessly for them, so I asked to keep my original unit. The power cable's electrical connector is a little heavier so I just needed to find an outlet that would seat it securely (it worked fine afterwards for me).

It is a fan, so don't expect it to have excellent airflow under heavier blankets. However, if you're sleeping warm anyways you shouldn't be using anything more than a sheet... just my opinion. The unit does make a slight vibration against the foot of the bed that's hardly noticeable for me as long as I don't poke my feet too far down. The wireless remote is a nice feature, however I have no use to adjust the speed at all after it's on (I like my fans on high all the time). The fan pushes air under a sheet I'd say about 3 feet... It does NOT blow it all the way through the sheet, so you won't end up getting whipped in the face by the other end of the sheet (I'm 5'11" and the air force stops right around mid chest which is nice for me).

Yes, I did find the unit tipped over when I awoke, but I accounted that to me again (I move around when I sleep).
Oh, the power cord is nice and long so you have about 15' worth of cord to position it from the electrical socket.

All in all, it was a good buy for ME; if you keep it in retrospect and don't have outrageous expectations for it (like expecting to have hurricane force winds). I bought a fan for my bed and it is what it is... a fan for my bed; it's not my cure all, but it does help and definitely doesn't hurt.

Before, I used to put a box fan on an elevated surface and put my sheet over it, but which impeded the air suction from the back end and causing the dB's to go up as the unit strained to draw in air. With this fan I sacrificed the power of a box fan for a product designed to bypass that and is more quiet. The question you need to answer for yourself is, "Is $100 worth a fan that won't answer all my sleep problems, but may help a little?" For me the answer was simply yes because I'm tried of restless hot nights with nothing practical to help. I don't expect it to always be my answer, but if it even improves 50% of those nights than it's worth it to me because sleep is a necessity so I don't mind a little luxury.

When it comes to items carrying the Brookstone name, it goes without saying that they're going to be overpriced. However, since this is a review of the product, I'm not deducting any points based on price. Quality is another issue, one for which I'm deducting 1 star, although a deduction of 1.5 stars would be closer to the truth. Now for the review.

I purchased the Brookstone Bed Fan a month ago. The first one came with a defective wireless remote control that would only work some of the time. Since I wasn't sure whether the defect was limited to the remote control, I returned the entire bed fan and have now been using a replacement one for 2 weeks.

Regardless of how cold the temperature is in our bedroom, I always wake up in the middle of night, hot and sweaty. This item seemed like a perfect solution to the problem. The first thing that you notice upon removing the fan from the carton, is that it's extremely lightweight. My immediate impression was that it probably cost less than $25 to manufacture the bed fan, as it's so sparse on quality materials that it immediately gives the impression that it's cheap. The entire unit is made of very thin plastic, thus I don't see it lasting for a long period of time.

Setting the bed fan up is very easy. You simply take the top section that contains the vents and lower it onto the bottom section that contains the air intake screen. There are 2 clips on either side of the top section. When pressed inward, you can adjust the level of the fan, so that it will be able to direct a flow of air over the level of just about any mattress. It can be set up in one of two ways. The first is to have the intake vents facing the bed. In this case the bottom section of the unit fits under the bed and is out of the way. The problem with setting it up in this fashion is that the unit is so delicate, that the slightest bump will completely knock it over. As a result, I decided to place the intake vents facing away from the bed. This way, you can achieve greater stability, although if you bump into it, you'll still need to reposition the bed fan, as it will be dislodged from the correct position. All of this would have and should have been resolved, had the company decided to spend a few more bucks to build a heavier weight unit, using some metal parts instead of just cheap plastic. The air flow guide/vent is reversible, thus the ability to place the air intake vents either under or facing away from the bed.

Once I had the device set up, I plugged it in and installed 2 AA batteries in the wireless remote control. As directed, I placed the air outflow section between the bottom sheet and top sheet of my bed. I have a light blanket on top of the sheets. I placed the remote control on my nightstand and I was ready to go.

The remote control is a very useful device, as it allows you to easily control the fan speed without having to get out of bed. When you press the remote, it lights up blue for a few seconds, making it easier to use in the middle of the night. Aside from the cheap quality of the bed fan, it does work very well. Some reviewers have stated that there isn't enough airflow coming out of the vents. I find quite the opposite to be true. The vents are capable of sending out a large volume of air and in fact if I turn the remote all the way up, the air reaches all the way to the head of the bed.

It does take some getting used to this bed fan. Believe it or not, it does such an effective job of cooling you down, that you may want to consider wearing a pair of lightweight socks to bed. I don't have very good circulation in my feet, so I found that even when the fan was adjusted to the lowest setting, my feet would become very cold. I quickly solved this problem by wearing socks to bed. Now, I find that I can raise the level of the fan about half way and I'm very comfortable. It has completely solved the issue of being too hot and sweaty in the middle of the night, which to me is a miracle. Since the bed fan isn't capable of cooling my head, I have another pedestal fan directed at my face. The combination of the two has worked wonders. I should add that the white noise generated by the fan doesn't bother me at all, but I can see that it might bother some people.

Two other useful features of the bed fan are that it comes with a washable filter and that it automatically shuts off after 10 hours of use. The bottom section of the unit can easily be vacuumed in between filter cleanings.

The bottom line is that this bed fan works as advertised and does a highly effective job of cooling off your body while you're sleeping. It is not built to very high standards, but since it does what it says it will do, I've rated it at 4 stars. The 1 star reduction is for the mediocre quality of the materials used to make the fan.

Pros:
Easy to set up.
Does an effective job of cooling your body down.
Wireless remote control is very useful.
Variable fan speed that can be easily adjusted with the remote.
Washable filter
Auto Shutoff after 10 hours
Adjustable height
Reversible air flow guide/vent

Cons:
Overpriced
Cheap plastic throughout

Would I buy it again:
Yes, unless another company comes out with a higher quality unit.
