From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 3-Suspense builds as children follow a dormouse searching for a winter home. She observes squirrels, wasps, toads, etc., readying their homes, and escapes from an owl and a snake, finally finding the perfect spot in a tree. The text features repetition, limited vocabulary, short sentences, and large typeface. While earliest beginning readers may stumble over words like "meadow," "burrow," and "stump," this book is easier than Henrietta Bancroft and Richard G. Van Gelder's Animals in Winter (HarperCollins, 1996). Large, colorful photos of the animals are accompanied by small, labeled photos of their homes. A successful beginning science book.
