Product Description

Bedphones are the headphones designed for sleep. At less than 1/4 inch total thickness, you can barely feel the foam-covered speakers lying flat against your ears. Earhooks made from moldable memory wire provide a custom fit. Bedphones are compatible with all devices that accept a standard headphone plug. Satin eye mask and soft, sturdy-sided travel case included.

CONS: - Wire to hold them in place on your ear.
Daniel Boggs
Also they are a bit uncomfortable if you sleep on your side as the wire behind your ear digs into your skin under the pressure.

Sound quality is pretty good and they are fully adjustable.

I've been searching for options for headphones that I can use while sleeping. The Bedphones are a good solution.

I made an assumption from looking at the photo that these were basically flat ear buds. They are, but they are of a much wider diameter. The pad itself is exactly the circumference of a quarter. As such, they rest flat over the ear canal but don't go into your ear the way an ear bud would. I am an adult male on the smaller side so perhaps my ears are just small enough that the bedphones are uncomfortable for me. They press on the cartilage that is just in front of my ear canal and I woke up with a bit of pain there.

However, I still think that conceptually they are really good and that if they were smaller, such as regular ear bud pad-sized, then I'd be absolutely delighted. The wire that attaches them is meant to loop over the top of your ear. The wire is thin and flexible. I'd imagine that with repeated bending, they'd eventually wear down but these headphones are a reasonable-enough price that for someone who really is looking for a sleep/headphones solution, these are worth it. Because the wire is thin, I didn't really pay much attention to it.

TIP #1: The instructions that come with this recommend to bend the wire into a question mark shape. I found that to be the case, although more of an upside-down J shape really worked best because it put the wire more to the back. Anyway, my tip is that if you are going to adjust one headphone, lay it flat with the other headphone and adjust both at the same time so that you get them to be symmetric.

TIP #2: The "L" and "R" letters marking the left and right headphones are really hard to see. To easily know which headphone is the left one, I tie the left cord into a knot.

I originally thought bedphones would help me in two ways: 1) Tune out my roommates to fall asleep 2) Listen to my favorite podcasts as I fall asleep. Bedphones have been great for both of these - they are the most comfortable set of headphones for in-bed/sleep usage that I've found so far, and when combined with the free app work really well for both of these purposes. As a bonus, they're solid enough headphones in general that I also use them as my normal headphones when I don't have to wear earbuds.

Also, the sleep mask and carrying case are awesome for my frequent flying.

5/5 for exceeding my expectations

I saw this item featured in a tech magazine.

I thought they could be an improvement over regular earbuds, which I wear one ear at a time, when on my side.

I was an early adopter and got these before any reviews were posted for this item...

The bedphones were not any more comfortable than earbuds, when used on my side, and they readily become a bent-wire tangled mess by morning.

I returned them for a refund after a week of trial and mega-fail error.

I returned the BedPhones to the address on the box and when no refund appeared on my credit card statement, so I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card company, so I could get a refund.

I wanted to like the BedPhones and found no redeaming value in them at all.

I will stop my search for something better, for the time being, and will stick with regular earbuds.

It sounds stupid, but I really think Bedphones changed my life. I've always liked listening to relaxing music during bed, but regular iPhone-style earbuds hurt my ears whenever I rolled over. These are so soft and flat, it literally feels like there's nothing there. Which is exactly what I want them for.

I am going to give a pair to everyone in my family (who I like) this Christmas, particularly my niece and nephew at college. They look like they make great stocking stuffers.

I was looking for headphones that I could wear while I slept, and all of my previous purchases hurt my ears leaving them sore in the morning. Because of all my late nights in college, I find it difficult to fall asleep at a reasonable hour, and can sometimes only do so by listening to music. Then I found bedphones! This product is so comfortable and really caters to the customers' needs. You can even download an app that turns your droid or ipod into a timer and shuts off your music at a certain time. It is a music lover's dream. After telling my four siblings about bedphones, they asked to see them. My siblings aren't an easy crowd to please, but all 4 demanded a pair of bedphones, and ordered them immediately. My sister says she can now tune out her noisy roommates when she has to go to bed early for a 9 am class. Also, shipping was super quick and the bedphones arrived within days. I recommend this product to anyone who loves music and/or wants to fall asleep listening to music. After seeing my family's response, I also believe this product would make a fantastic holiday gift, so I plan on ordering more for my extended family.

I thought the bedphones were going to end my search for the perfect sleeping headphones but unfortunately they were just another returned item.
First of all, these were much larger than I had anticipated. I expected them to rest in the ear behind that little nub at the front of the ear but they were too large for that. On the pillow side, the headphones press against this nub and I found it uncomfortable after a while.
Second, while the shaping wire was mostly unnoticeable and did hold the headphones in all night, it's not possible to make them snug enough to be able to turn from side to side without making an effort to keep them in.
Lastly, an issue relating to both other complaints is that with these being loose fitting and just resting on the outside of the ear, I found that I needed to turn the music up several notches above the level for earbuds. And at this increased level I could hear the music easily in the ear against the pillow, but the music was very quiet in the other ear (I'm 25 with no hearing loss).

Maybe this headphones would be good for someone who isn't a side sleeper or who doesn't toss and turn much.. I wouldn't know. After returning these, I got the JVC HAFX67A Air Cushion Headphone (Blue) and these have been the best sleeping headphones I've ever tried.
