His taste in beats are impeccable,
This review is from: Bedrock Breaks: Fractured (Audio CD)
It's gotta be one or the other; keep the track instrumental or put on a vocal worthy of being there. That is - precisely - the dilemma with Bedrock Fractured, Hyper's worthy follow-up to last year's Bedrock Breaks. His taste in beats are impeccable. The cooled breaks of Momu's "Sunsicle," the buzzing bassline of Meat Katie and Christian J's heads-down "Cusp" and all around ace Pilgrem/Uberzone "Cous Cous," start things right, while a superb disc two shows off the sublime electro dub, chopped-vocal Dr. Mottie/Westbam "Sunshine." Hyper's own high-quality work matches anything here, notably the slap bass "Slapper." And then there's PMT, BLIM, Timo Maas... Right, the beats are superb. So next time, either bug artists to keep one-line repeater tracks like Spork "Freek Like Me," Oakenfold "Starry Eyed Surprise" and Ils "Music" from mucking up the stellar work underneath, or get some decent lyrics like the (lone exception) PFN "Beautiful Day." That is all. Disc 1: 3 stars Disc 2: 4 stars.

From the ashes of the dying genre of Trance, and the smoldering embers of House emerged a new genre: Breaks. Pioneered by artists like Orbital, Leftfield, and Fluke, there is an entirely new crop of artists spearheading the movement today. Hyper is one of these people. He has an unnerving talent of creating a completely moving, tasteful, and ridiculously awesome set almost seamlessly. From dancefloor stormers, to more laid-back tracks, this CD is THE breaks CD to own in 2003
