There's much more - and witty plot summaries of all Christie's novels, plays, and many of her short stories. (But no endings, of course!) Editorial Reviews

Review

"The ideal gift for Christie addicts."—Publishers Weekly

One key element of a classic is the fact that it keeps being discovered with wonderment by new readers. Generations of mystery mavens first encountered the genre—in written or dramatic form—in the person of Sherlock Holmes, so this new celebration of Arthur Conan Doyle's canon should have appeal. The authors, who compiled a similar companion to Agatha Christie's work (1986), supply capsule descriptions of each tale; each includes data on first publication, a precis of the "principal predicament," a notable quote, and comments on the story's "notable feature" and "oddities and discrepancies." But this Holmes companion includes more: information about Doyle, Victorian England (and Holmes' London), the British empire, British government (remember Mycroft?), British peerage, British money, the stories' illustrators, actors who've portrayed Holmes and Watson, Sherlock Holmes societies around the world, and a half dozen other helpful subjects. Not an essential acquisition, but likely to circulate where Holmes remains a favorite fictional detective. (Mary Carroll Booklist )

4.0 out of 5 stars Light reading to supplement Christie's books., January 5, 2007
By
Laura G (Monroe, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bedside, Bathtub & Armchair Companion to Agatha Christie (Bedside Bathtub & Armchair Companions) (Paperback)
This book isn't anything more than it says it is - a Companion to the works of Agatha Christie. It's several short essays that explains the plot of each book (but never gives away the ending) and has several companion essays that tell the story of Christie's life and life in England while she was alive. There are essays on how people dressed, how servants were treated, how Christie treated lower-class characters in her books. There are essays delving into the psychology of our favorite detectives.

It's meant to be picked up and read in short bursts. It provides a lot of information in quick bits.

It's by no mean a comprehensive biography of Christie. Several essays are much better than others. But it's a nice little companion for Christie fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Golden Nugget, December 15, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bedside, Bathtub & Armchair Companion to Agatha Christie (Bedside Bathtub & Armchair Companions) (Paperback)
First off, let me say that I am not your "typical" Christie fan. I am a twenty-four year old male who loves mystery novels, especially if they involve a M. Poirot, or a Ms. Marple. I was browsing a new used book store in my town, when I decided eye up the Christie's. After a glance at the softcovers I walked over to the hardcover Christie section and found this book that I have neither seen or heard of, the Christie companion. And with the three dollar price tag it was a must have, although I would have paid fifty.

I seen another reviewer refer to an older copy, and that is what my version is. On to the review though... simple put it is a must have for anyone familiar with Agathas work. Casual and hardcore fan alike. You can read it front to back, or use it as a bathroom book, I chose the former. And to the reviews comment about the "N" word. It was written in a different time period, and location where those racial boundries haven't been created. She is not being disrespectful for goodness sakes!

Overall great book, lots of little potpouri information, GREAT find! A true diamond in the rough...
