This is a terrific book on dreams, the best I've read.,

This review is from: The Bedside Guide to Dreams (Paperback)
This is a terrific book on dreams. I say this from the point of view of being a counselor / therapist who has worked with dreams of others as well as my own for many years. The author's main premise goes beyond the old paradigm that a dream comes with a message; she claims that dreams also come with a purpose or goal which she calls "dream types". Michaels makes a compelling argument for first understanding the dream within the context of the dream type in order to get the message quickly and directly. For example, a dream may show you taking a cruise. One dream type would sugest that taking a vacation would relieve emotional stress (an Emotional Rebalancing dream type). Another would suggest a career change into the travel business (Decision Making dream type). If you understand the goal, the message is easy to get. The book lists 27 such goals or dream types and shows how to recognize each by giving several real life examples and pointing out distinguishing features. No other dream book does this. It also contains a 50 page "How to" section on dream interpretation using a Five Step Method that works superbly for both those new and experienced to dreams. If you are investigating the meaning of your dreams, this book is a must.

Great book to understand your dreams!,

I knew Stase when she was in grad school. She is a wonderful, warm spiritual person. She presented a program on dreams for our psychology club and then conducted a one day dream seminar for interested club members. I went to both and really enjoyed them. I learned so much from her. When her book came out, I bought it and have used it ever since for interpreting my dreams. It is useful, practical, and very intuitive. Sometimes dream books are really "out there". But this one works! Stase works with you and your dreams, instead of pushing some wierd pseudo-freudian interpretation on you. This is the only book you need if you want to interpret your dreams!!

A good start,

When I opened up the book and realized that there was no subject index, I was kind of worried about how useful this was going to be. I mean, when you wake up and remember a certain type of dream, you want to look it up. So, then I just started reading it as a book, and I found it very useful. It talks about why we dream and what dreams do for our bodies and our minds. And it also has specific sections on procrastination dreams or worry dreams or life-changing dreams. The more I read it, the more I like it.

I was surprised when I read this book. I was expecting for it to solve all of my dream questions/problmes and to interpret them all for me. BOY WAS I WRONG! And that is why I loved this book. Each chapter deals with a different dream "subject" and gives examples of the subject by listing dreams that other people had. It then goes in depth about why you were dreaming about this subject and how to figure out what it means in your life. There is no A-Z listing of one word descriptions. This book is instructional, so that you can interpret them correctly...as to what they mean in YOUR life....and not based on someone's general description. With this book you can break a dream down to it's barest essentials and you will be surprised how easily the meaning will come to you I highly recommend this dream book. In fact, I will never buy any other dream book and I will be lending this to all my friends so they can interpret their own dreams instead of relying on useless information.

To date, I have only found one thing in this book that correlates to not even my dream, but a dream a friend of mine has had. So I gave it an additional star as it was able to give a little help to my friend. I have not found the information very useful at all for myself; it simply gives examples of other dreams and if you can relate your own dream to it than it may be worth it for you, but I have not been able to relate any of my own dreams to the examples in the book. If you are looking for a guide that will help you figure out the type of dream you had then this book is for you. Otherwise my first choice is the Dreamer's Dictionary by Lady Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett, which always helps me to interpret all my dreams. Dreamer's Dictionary
