5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the greatest lyrics ever written
This album is the pinnacle of the DKs creative expression. Tight, fast-paced performances are highlighted, and the lyrics on this disc put Jello Biafra among the elite of lyrical genius alongside the likes of Roger Waters, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Ian Anderson, Neil Peart. This is the best example of what real hardcore punk is about. Buy it; you won't be...

3.0 out of 5 stars not the best, but still pretty good
there have been some reviews that just bash this last album, however it's not that bad. obviously, compared with their previous albums, this final CD does not do the dead kennedys justice. however, it still flows very well and it's enjoyable. this cd has a whole different feel than their previous ones. but then again "fresh fruit" has a different feel as well. for...

5.0 out of 5 stars For the hardcore DK fans, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Bedtime For Democracy (Audio CD)
The prior negative reviews are bringing out the stereotype, that punks are narrowminded and only prefer one type of sound, and they should in no way be taken seriously. When Dead Kennedys experiment with the issues that mattered instead of their old realistic horror punk, with minor hints at some pressing issues, it brings a new refreshing look thst any hardcore DK fan will love this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars not the best, but still pretty good, October 13, 2004

there have been some reviews that just bash this last album, however it's not that bad. obviously, compared with their previous albums, this final CD does not do the dead kennedys justice. however, it still flows very well and it's enjoyable. this cd has a whole different feel than their previous ones. but then again "fresh fruit" has a different feel as well. for the first time listener, this CD should not be the one you start with, if you want their hits get "give me convenience or give me death" but i'd say "plastic surgery" gives the overall mix of the dead kennedys even if it's not usually a fan's favorite album since it does not contain "california uber alles" nor "holiday in cambodia", but that's what makes it unique. all their cds are unique however.

in conclusion, this wasn't a bad last effort, there's better but this cd is still essential to the collector.

definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars quite possibly the greatest DK record, lyrically, June 11, 1998

The final Dead Kennedys album, (Give Me Convience isn't an album) "Bedtime for Democracy" is one of, if not the best, punk record ever. Jello Biafra's lyrics, are 1,000 times more intellegent than anything by Minor Threat,SeX PiSTolS or even The Clash and this record is the best example of that fact. I consider 'Triumph of the Swill', 'Rambozo the Clown', 'Do the Slag' 'Anarchy for Sale' 'Macho Insecurity', and 'Chickens**t Conformist' some of the greatest lyrics ever on a music Cd of any genre. This album is a must-have for any PuNk fan, or Socalist for that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, September 3, 2004
This review is from: Bedtime For Democracy (Audio CD)
I can understand why some people might not like this cd but I actualy think it is a realy good cd. This cd is fast paced and the songs are short but that doesn't make it a bad cd. The great artwork included in the other dk albums are missing but are you buying this cd for the artwork or the cd? Well I hope your buying it for the cd. A lot of people don't like this cd but I personaly think it is a great cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Worry About the Government, December 25, 2010
This review is from: Bedtime For Democracy (Audio CD)
The incredible swirling of government vultures, the obscenity lawsuit, a hardcore scene becoming increasingly violent and personal/professional drama would have been a toxic brew for most bands, but the Dead Kennedys let loose one last time with massive doses of societal satire ("Hop With the Jet Set," "Shrink"), powerful political pontifications ("Rambozo the Clown," "Potshot Heard 'Round the World") and pointed commentary on the shallowness of pop culture ("Dear Abby," "Macho Insecurity," "D.M.S.O.") that artfully scream defiance over 21 tracks that show an evolving musical growth even as the lights faded out before the album was released in November 1986.

After touring ceased in February 1986, the group returned to the studio during the summer to record what was the final album. The incredible cover of David Allan Coe's "Take This Job and Shove It" and "Anarchy for Sale" are about disillusionment as much as disappointment, though Jello Biafra's spoken word "A Commercial" - coupled with the excellent album cover - become the central thrust on the biting commentary surrounding this "Greed is Good" era.

"Lie Detector" is a fitting final flurry on themes that never really go away; only the names change on the badges worn by the puppets. The cost of living, indeed.

Bedtime for democracy is similar to "in god we trust inc." It is fast and hardcore. Some people say this this is dk's worst, but i think it is one of their best. This is dk's last studio album also.

5.0 out of 5 stars For TRUE Dead Kennedys fans, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Bedtime For Democracy (Audio CD)
Bed Time for Democracy is one of Dead kennedys best releases I mean in no way is this weak ,most who think so haven't read the lyrics or are too narrowminded for this. If you do not own this get it punk.
