5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect baby book!
So first let me divulge that my daughter was a horrible sleeper and a horrible reader. One of the things that helped her sleep better at nights was having a predictable bedtime routine. I wanted to include a book or story in our routine but as soon as my kid had the ability to close books herself or rip them out of my hands, etc, then that's exactly what she would do...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this for my 1st Grandson's 1st birthday, his eyes lit up when he saw the book, my daughter started reading it to him. To our surprise the very first page that is suppose to flip open was torn off. This was suppose to be a new book not used. I thought about returning it but by the time I would pay shipping I could buy a new book in a book store in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect baby book!, September 18, 2010
This review is from: Bedtime (Dk Peekaboo) (Hardcover)
So first let me divulge that my daughter was a horrible sleeper and a horrible reader. One of the things that helped her sleep better at nights was having a predictable bedtime routine. I wanted to include a book or story in our routine but as soon as my kid had the ability to close books herself or rip them out of my hands, etc, then that's exactly what she would do. Even though I started reading to her when she was born, it took her until she was 22 months old to really get into them. Of course I experimented with different books, with simple text, fun pictures, or stuff to touch, different reading environments, etc, etc, etc. . . and had various degrees of success, for the most part though, just reading a book from start to finish was a huge rarity. However, now she LOVES reading, and has many favorite books.

My mother in law picked this book up at Marshall's or TJ Maxx or some place like that. An impulse buy for her poor sleep deprived daughter in law, I don't think she even knew about our trouble getting my kid to tolerate books.
Anyway, we have had this book since my daughter was 6 months old and from day one it has been a WINNER for us! Sometimes she loved it, other times she just tolerated it but we always got through it which was a BIG DEAL. The fact that she would want to read it twice was nothing short of a miracle as well! And furthermore it had a bedtime theme so it fit PERFECTLY in with our bedtime routine.

This book has many overlapping characteristics that babies love whereas most books only have a few such characters.
1) The book is simple and short. 5 pages
2) The book has flaps, and baby (or parent) must lift the flaps which are shaped like the objects they describe and say Peek-a-boo!
EX: "Where is the cuddly pig? Is she behind the cushion? [lift flap] Peek-a-boo! Choose a bedtime story."
3) The book uses photographs of real objects and children (there is a different baby, about 1 year old, on each page) and babies/ toddlers LOVE LOVE LOVE looking at photos of real baby faces.
4)There is a variety of ethnicities represented and that's nice. Two white children and two brown (hispanic?) One has very curly hair and could even be black or mixed race. And for me this was a plus as my daughter is mixed.
5) There is a different texture on each page for the baby to touch and interact with, my kid loves that!

Also there is a surprise ending that my daughter adores!

This book won't be every kid's favorite, kid's are all so different. But I don't think many kids will dislike it. Not if they are about a year old. At 25 months old my daughter sleeps 11 hours straight at night and still likes this book once in awhile! Hooray!

I just wish the book was a bit stronger board material. It is a board book but kinda thin. However, none of the pages have needed to be taped up yet which is amazing as our copy is VERY well worn!

ps I am not attributing my daughter's sleeping through the night to this book! I had to read many adult books about baby sleep to solve that problem lol, but I am saying, this is a 5 star baby/ toddler book if ever there was one!
