Childs got his first significant recognition during his six year tenure(1978-84)playing with the Freddie Hubbard Group. One of the fine pianists on today's circuit,is also a great orchestrator, arranger, and composer. In his dedication to Herbie Hancock's compositions,he infuses the tunes with superb small ensemble arrangements, giving new life to these already well established standards. The ingenious re-working of 'Toys',is a great example. It is a real testimonial of how much can be accomplished with great small ensemble arrangements. This is inspiring music.
