Transcending the tired conventions of vapid mass marketed popular music, Kelley Dolan paints a previously unexplored sonic landscape ranging from delicate, sublime brush strokes to buckets of paint thrown violently on canvas. This is the musical environment where Kelley Dolan feels at home. To follow the well trodden path would be a waste of her prodigious talent. Her music has the rare power to power to challenge and transform, to bludgeon and seduce. Her introspective lyrics challenge us to look more deeply and to be true to ourselves.
The categorizing mind may want to draw comparisons to Tori Amos, Kate Bush, or Joni Mitchell. But these comparisons obscure Kelley's unique and ground breaking musical identity. And the need to categorize will only close our minds and ears, preventing us from hearing something truly beautiful and revolutionary.
