5.0 out of 5 stars This classic Bee Gees disco era hits package is finally given a proper remastering, with a few surprises thrown in!!!
Finally The Bee Gees "Greatest" album finally sounding the way it should, with crisp highs and thumping lows!!! This is the best these disco era classics have ever sounded!!! The original album with all of those disco classics(the country sounding "Rest Your Love On Me"(A much bigger hit for Conway Twitty that they wrote and put out as the B-side of "Too Much Heaven) has...

3.0 out of 5 stars Re-release of disco material
This 2cd set is not really the Bee Gee's greatest hits, but possibly the greatest hits through the disco era. Tracks are from 'Saturday Night Fever', 'Children Of The World' and other albums. The bonus tracks to fill out the double disc are reorchestrations of some of the original tunes which may make your hair stand up on end. For their real greatest hits package, go for...

Finally The Bee Gees "Greatest" album finally sounding the way it should, with crisp highs and thumping lows!!! This is the best these disco era classics have ever sounded!!! The original album with all of those disco classics(the country sounding "Rest Your Love On Me"(A much bigger hit for Conway Twitty that they wrote and put out as the B-side of "Too Much Heaven) has always seemed out of place to me,but its still a good song) is joined by some rare material including,a promo 12" Version of Stayin' Alive and their version of Warm Ride, which was originally a hit for Rare Earth that they wrote and recorded but never released, until now!!! Also 5 brand new remixes are added to the lineup,You Should Be Dancing,If I Can't Have You,Night Fever,How Deep Is Your Love, and Stayin' Alive, there cool, but not as good as the classic originals!!! Very Recommended, even if you own the original 2 CD package, this is a worthy upgrade!!! The sound is that good!!! The only beef I have is with the packaging, the CD's are a bit hard to get out of the holder and can get scratched quite easily!!! It's still a five star package!!! Two thumbs up!!! Way up!!! A+

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Stayin' Alive, September 18, 2007
This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
The music of the 1970's remains as distinctive and classic for the past several years. With great acts like The Police and Genesis who've recently reunited as well, it seems like classic music from the past has a noble re-introduction with reunions everywhere. That is also said through the music of the Bee Gees. Although it is very sad that it has been over four years since the heartbreaking death of Maurice Gibb, the brothers distinctive sound has been reintroduced to a whole new generation for die hard fans, and for those who seem to really be more into Paris Hilton, and those overexposed rap artists. Now, a returning hits records has still shown the Gibb brothers music is still as lively as ever.

The 2007 re-release of the Bee Gees double album Greatest, spans the group through the history of their second era of hits, the 1970's. The collection includes some great tracks that are just delightful to, as well as a few extra remixed versions of classic Bee Gees songs. The album has been remastered very well, and is the first time the album has seen the light of day in several years, since the Bee Gees catalog was recently moved from Universal, to Warner Brothers last year. The album includes some really great tracks including th soulful How Deep Is your Love, Jive Talkin', the often overlooked Nights On Broadway, and the classic #1 dance smash Stayin' Alive from Saturday Night Fever. Although, there are a lot of tracks that've been remixed here well, I honestly wish the album could've included I've Started A Joke, and a few other great classic songs.

All in all, while there have been so many Bee Gees greatest hits albums released the past several years from 2004's Number Ones, to 2005's Love Songs, Greatest stays true to the core as being a definitive hits album for new fans of The Bee Gees, and a reminder for longtime fans what classic guilty pleasures still sound like today. I absolutely recommend this as a great addition to your music library. It still shows classics are always Stayin' Alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect collection "Bad Packaging", September 21, 2007
This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
This is an excellent collection, rare remixes, and great remastering, but you will most likely have scratches on the discs because of the cardboard inlay they're in. I tried as carefully as possible to take the discs out gently. They still got scratched. I'm not happy with that at all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Collection Remastered & Revamped!, September 20, 2007
This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
This is only "some" of the Bee Gees hits, representing the best songs they recorded from 1975 to 1979. Big Hits before 1975 are ignored. There are nine #1 songs, half a dozen other top ten hits and some popular covered versions. Only four can truly be considered disco songs. A nice blend of dance numbers, ballads, B-Sides, "R & B" and occasional great album cuts; this is a wonderful collection. The only single to be ignored is the funky, "Boogie Child" (?), but all is forgiven. "Warm Ride" makes it debut here and is a remarkable song.

Special treats include the first released Bee Gees version of "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" and the country flavored "Rest Your Love On Me", a Top 40 country hit.

This was the Bee Gees third #1 album in a row and is a great five year feat.

The new remixed versions of "Stayin' Alive", "Night Fever", "How Deep Is Your Love" and "If I Can't Have You" make this the ultimate collection of classic songs from the late seventies. The Bee Gees really did influence dance music during this period.

P.S. To the Amazon Editor: "Too Much Heaven" and "Love You Inside Out" were top singles and 'not bland'. Go wash your mouth out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic re-release, September 20, 2007

This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
From the superb packaging (including a cool pull-out poster) to pristine remastered sound to the generous bonus tracks, "Greatest" is a top-notch re-release. Even if you already own the original CD release, it's worth purchasing "Greatest" again, because this is the superior edition.

While it only focuses on the 1970s disco/R&B era of the Bee Gees, "Greatest" captures the trio at their peak.

What makes this really worth purchasing are the bonus tracks. A rare promo version of "Stayin' Alive" will undoubtedly be the draw here, since it's a rarity on CD. The revamped, remixed versions of "You Should Be Dancing", "If I Can't Have You", "Night Fever" and "How Deep is Your Love" don't stray too far from the originals but are updated enough to give them a more contemporary feel.

Relive the Bee Gees' most popular era with this excellent release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, September 18, 2007

This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
The harmonies - fantastic. The production - incredible. The songwriting - masterful.

With all that in its favor, I had to take away a point for this collection for the combined drawback of missing tracks and for some lousy packaging. Any "greatest" collection of any artist is going to come up short, but 26 tracks hardly scratches the surface when you consider that many of these are remixes. The emphasis here is the '70s Bee Gees which is fine (great, really), but you'll need to buy several more CDs worth of material to get a taste of the '60s era and any hidden gems from the later period.

The CD package looks really nice, but those cardboard sleeves make you fight to remove the CD itself thus creating fingerprints, scratches, etc. What's worse, disc 2 in my set was jammed in there so tightly that when I finally wrestled it free, it was smattered with glue from the packaging process.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bee Gees Greatest Hits, August 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bee Gees Greatest (Audio CD)
The title "Greatest Hits" is loosely used. Not every artists' greatest hits albums contains their greatest hits. If these are released singles, then the album should be "singles". If these are just greatest hits, then the album should contain great hits. So, I only listen to their greatest hits and any other songs I like between the two disks. This isn't a review on the artist, only the product.

As a Bee Gee's Fanatic I can say that this is the best compilation of all their great hits from 1975-1979 with new remixes in todays dance/techno genre format. This great 2 CD set is a must for all Bee Gees Fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dare you to play this at work-I do any everyone sings along!, September 20, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I just bought my second copy of this CD. I have played it to death!
This album is a treat for any Bee Gees fan. I play this CD at work sometimes, and everyone around seems to sing along, from the 19 year old girl to the grandmas!
I'm glad they added "Spirits Having Flown" on this album. It's a fun song with a calypso type feel and amazing harmonies.
I could do with a bit less falsetto and more of the old songs, like "Words", but otherwise a great buy !
