3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, great pictures, story not so great
Cool pictures and the hologram thingies really catch my son's attention. Nice story about the importance of bees.... but it sort of falls short - and definitely ends abruptly. Doesn't really "pull you in." Just relies on its message and pictures - not the story. There is a section after the story with more "bee facts" which is nice, but to me it seemed a bit incongruent...

5.0 out of 5 stars An underlying environmental lesson told through a thoroughly kid-friendly and engaging storyline, October 11, 2008
A unique and ground-breaking children's book, "Bee & Me" has an underlying environmental lesson told through a thoroughly kid-friendly and engaging storyline by Elle J. McGuinness, and superbly enhanced by the lively and colorful art work of Heather Brown. Throughout the book are images that move by simply turning the page. The publishing technology that enables this is called 'Ani-motion' and will total absorb young readers of all ages and reading levels. "Bee & Me" is the story of a young boy who is able to overcome his fear of bees when he meets and talks to one, who informs him about all the good that bees do for the world. Superbly written, unique, and delightfully (as well as animatedly) illustrated, "Bee & Me" is highly recommended for family picturebook collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, informative, educational, November 14, 2008
When I first saw the cover of this book, I assumed that it would be a mediocre story with a cute gimmick, like most "gimmicky" books. This one is a rare exception. It has wonderful, varied vocabulary in rhyme form. The animation is phenomenal, and the story itself accurately describes what a bee does. It's not too long or drawn out, so it's perfect for three's and four's. The informational pages at the end offer more detailed facts.
The only thing that some might find a negative is the bee dance is not portrayed accurately. It's portrayed as a booty shake, which I thought was cute, but it's not what a bee dance actually looks like. I made sure to tell my kids what it would look like in real life. Not a big deal, but since this is a science book, I thought I'd point it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Cool Moving Pictures!, November 2, 2008
I picked up this book and was amazed by the moving pictures inside...sort of like a pop-up book (where when you move the pages, the pop-ups move) but when you open the book, parts of the pictures move! The wings of the bee move, the dog runs...it's really cool. My nephew is going to be fascinated by this book when I give it to him for Christmas...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet as honey!, January 17, 2009

This is an incredibly charming story, with lovely rhymes and a honeycomb's worth of sweetness throughout. A young boy, initially afraid of a bee, listens earnestly when it describes its work, and decides that bees are pretty important. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the bee facts at the end surprising. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awesome book!, January 12, 2009
By
I bought this book for my 3.5 year old and we both love it. The animotion is awesome and really keeps her attention while we are reading it. The story is very cute and educational and there is a list of bee facts in the back. The story is pretty basic and short, so I would receommend it as a bedtime story for toddlers OR for older kids learning to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun book!, February 10, 2009
This is one of my daughter's favorite. It's interesting to see moving pictures as you turn the page. She always gets sad when we get to the page where the bee's tears are dropping & gets all excited at the end when bee's flying away.

Bee & Me: An Animotion Experience

I bought two of these books, one for my 4 year old granddaughter and one for my 5 year old granddaughter. Both girls adore these books, and so do their older brother and sister. The pictures are wonderful... so fun to see the creatures actually moving! There is also so much information included about the bees. This book is a wonderful choice for children. Interesting, informative, and fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, March 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is interesting for a kid. I thought it was neat the way they make the pages move. The only thing is, I got this book for my sister in law who is an apiarist ( bee keeper). She said there are a few facts in the back of the book which are incorrect.

Other wise its a great book.

I had heard great things about this book and that it was selling fast so I ordered eight of them without ever reading it myself! A few days later I found it in a local bookstore and decided to sneak a peek. What a delight! I ended up reading it on the spot and have to say that not only was the story wonderful, the facts at the end interesting and informational, but I found myself enthralled with the animation. Great job my all involved!
