5.0 out of 5 stars Raw, but fun
I had never heard of Kevin Fowler before seeing him at the Cabaret in Bandera. He has a great sound and puts on a great show. This CD is worth buying if you are a fan of Texana music (or progressive Austin country music as some people unfortunately like to phrase it). Beer, Bait and Ammo is a great song. There are four or five others that are quite good. He brings...

3.0 out of 5 stars Something most people don't know
I just recently got to see Kevin in concert here in San Antonio. I am not a country fan, matter of fact can't stand country. But I like Kevin. He has is own sound and doesn't follow the trends of media manipulated pre manufactured trendy country music that I always here on the radio. I also got to met him and he is a real cool guy to talk to. If your a country fan...

He brings the typical sense of humor associate with this great musical genre and reminds me of a raw Robert Earl Keen, but closer to Charlie Robison. If you buy this disc, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Independent country is alive and well in Texas, May 5, 2004
This review is from: Beer Bait & Ammo (Audio CD)
A great set of rollicking, uptempo outlaw honkytonk, with sassy, snappy guitar licks worthy of all those fine old Dwight Yoakam albums... Fowler's a youngTexas indiebilly who got a leg-up in the music world through Sammy Kershaw's swell rendition of this album's title track, "Beer, Bait & Ammo" -- as fine a tongue-in-cheek good ole boy anthem as has ever been recorded. There are several tracks of equal caliber on this album, including "Hellbent For A Heartache," "J.O.B.," "100% Texas" and the wistful loser ballad, "Drinkin' Days." Nice stuff, with plenty of boozy pedal steel and pop-a-top sentiments. If you're looking for real, honest, independently produced hard country, check this guy out!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how we like it in Texas, January 8, 2002
This review is from: Beer Bait & Ammo (Audio CD)
In Beer, Bait and Ammo, Kevin Fowler takes you all over Texas with his voice. This CD is full of suprises from ballads like "If These Old Walls Could Talk" which can make your heart melt, to good old, rowdy Texas honky tonk tunes like "Hellbent for a Heartache". When I saw The Kevin Fowler Band live I rushed out to find the cd and it is just as good as his live show. I never get tired of listening to this cd. It has lasting power and will always be one of my favorites. So check it out you wont regret it. Texas country music is about to take over so jump on the band wagon while there is still room!!

5.0 out of 5 stars real western, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Beer Bait & Ammo (Audio CD)
With its title, "Beer, Bait and Ammo," how can this go wrong? It can't. The album is real western music, not "hot country" but straight forward music without the over-produced sound that infects so much of the Nashville sound these days. Funny thing: it's not from Nashville. Perhaps this singer/songwriter actually knows his way around a horse. He certainly knows Texas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beer, Bait, & Ammo A Must, December 12, 2001

Beer, Bait, & Ammo is simply one of the best CD's I've ever purchased. If you're a fan of real Texas Music, this is a must. Kevin Fowler's songs range from slow-waltzes, to honky-tonk dancehall music, to good-old Texas Swing. For some reason, it found it's way into my changer but hasn't found its way out. His music is as great as his live shows, which are killer. If you've never heard of him, you will.

Fowler is one heck of a Country singer. He's got heavy metal roots but you'd never be able to tell. This album is a very good cross between the Austin and Bakersfield sounds. Very melodic and tough, not too glossy like Kenny Rogers and not too raw. Kevin Fowler, "you've decorated my life."

The first time I heard this album I started searching for places I could buy it. I finally got it and have played it so much I've had to order another one. I love the beat to Kevin's music. Perfect for dancing to. Beer, Bait and Ammo is so good and my favorite on the CD, but I also like the rest of them. Would like to see him record some more of his work. It's outstanding.

Kevin Fowler is incredible, my boyfriend and I saw him Saturday night, and I've never had more fun in my life! The next morning I rushed into town and bought Beer, Bait, and Ammo. It hasn't left my CD player yet, and trust me, it's there to stay.

If this is not the best Texas redneck drinking song for a Friday night, I'll eat roadkill BBQ'd Armadillo for a week!
