A page-turning academic read,

This review is from: Beer: Health and Nutrition (Hardcover)
Alcohol has a bad rep. It is commonly "known" that alcoholic consumption on a regular basis makes the body age faster, causes brain damage, and can lead to alcoholism... but much of these "facts" have been skewed in our alcohol-wary society. Bamforth attacks these claims with real data, examining previous studies and looking at new ones, to get the the bottom of the health effects of alcohol. You will be surprised to find that alcohol in moderation is actually good for you, helping to provide physical AND mental soundness later in life. This book will change the way you look at alcohol and beer consumption, giving a reason to cut down on alcohol intake or a reason to enjoy a brew guilt free.

WOW! I did not know as much about beer as I thot I did. Interesting points in this book include:
* When the first recipes for beer were written * Where the term `bridal' comes from * Where the term `toast' (as in celebratory speech) comes from * The average age of beer drinkers in the past couple hundred years * How beer production impacted world economies (previously) A fun and informative read, the first chapters are well worth the read while the 2nd half onwards gets a bit into the nitty gritty of beer production and control. (As seen on my blog [...]) |
