Valuable and informative, even for novices,

This review is from: The Beethoven Companion (Hardcover)
At the used rates, this book is definitely worth the money even for the very casual listener to Beethoven. It includes more or less nontechnical discussions of each and every piece Beethoven composed (often excerpts from multiple authors), plus his life, his letters, notes by recent musicians/conductors, etc. 1200pp.! If you buy any Beethoven CD or book, or go to a concert, you might as well have this for reference.
