Eric Heidseick's set of Beethoven sonatas is an excellent set, consistent throughout in many ways. It's never boring, and always you get a sense that he is aware of the architecture of each piece. Here are some general comments:The sound quality (recorded in the early 70s) is excellent. It's not quite as rich as Arrau's but better than that of Askenazy's or Bernard Roberts' sets. In general, this set has excellent playing throughout, and anyone who can make the op. 49 sound interestng has my applause. Highly recommended.

Superior recordings, but get the 50 CD Beethoven set to save,

I agree with the above reviewer completely. But the full 32 Beethoven piano concertos with Eric Heidsieck are included in the 50 Cd "Les chefs-d'oeuvre de Beethoven en 50 CD par les plus grands artists" which includes stunning recordings from EMI including the legendary 1959 Beethoven Violin concerto with David Oistrakh and Andre Cluytens conducting, along with a ton more less than $1 per CD.
