Beautiful, but old!, April 10, 2000

This opera recording of Beethoven's second version of Fidelio,is pretty good. The Overture as well as the singing is done verywell. The dialog is not there though. I warn you, that the music within this recording is very different from first version of Fidelio! The music is beautiful and heart-wrenching. The orchestra is very good; as if taking all of Beethoven's punishment. But the orchestra is in the pitch of C sharp which means the overture, and the aria of Marzillene, is in C sharp. I would rate this as a number four out of the Leonore recordings out there. END
