A True Wonder,
By
This review is from: Beethoven Piano Sonatas 14, 8, 23 and 26 (Audio CD)
Brendel's interpretaion of these sonatas are wonderful. These sonatas are among Beethoven's most popular. Brendel is a wonder and does not fall vicitm to many of the unfortunate mistakes that occur when Beethoven is interpreted. Standouts are the last movement of the Moonlight which he executes with speed accuracy and detailed attention to dynamics. The Pathetique from beginning to end is superb.

This review is from: Beethoven Piano Sonatas 14, 8, 23 and 26 (Audio CD)
and I mean quality -- the performance and the sound. I got it today and put on my newly assembled not too bad audio system (Dynaudio Special 25 speakers + Byrston 4B-ST amplifier + Camelot Uther MkIII DAC !) and it is soooo good! The background is pitch black. The piano just sounds 'fluid', more so than any other piano albums I have. Beautiful! You won't regret a bit if you buy this album. Abe

A 6 star recording,
By Todd Ebert (Long Beach California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beethoven Piano Sonatas 14, 8, 23 and 26 (Audio CD)
During my lifetime I had heard samples of beethoven's piano sonatas within the popular media (movies, television, ads, etc.), but until recently buying this disc, never really had the chance to listen to one in its entirety. Well, better late than never! In listening to these sonatas, one senses not only much feeling and passion in each note, but also a sense that these sonatas must at times seem *very* technically challenging to play even for the most skilled pianist. One can only wonder what or who in this world inspired Beethoven to write something as majestic and powerful as "Moonlight Sonata". In any case I find that this passion and inspiration transfers over while listening and attempting my own creative work. At times we all need some inspiration and encouragement to move forward with our life's work. And sometimes music can provide that; especially that of Beethoven.
Another aspect of this recording that I find superb is the sound clarity.
