5.0 out of 5 stars Beethoven Editions for All Time, October 8, 2008
This review is from: Beethoven, Piano Sonatas: Op. 14, Nos. 1,2 / Op. 22 / Op. 26 / Op. 27, Nos. 1, 2 / Op. 28 (An Alfred Masterwork Library) (Paperback)
Dr. Stewart Gordon, Professor Extraordinaire and Chair of the University of Southern California Piano Department, has put together an amazing series of Beethoven editions for Alfred. Rather than merely including his own ideas about Beethoven performance practice, Dr. Gordon has decided to collect details from ALL available editions of Beethoven--Schnabel, Arrau, Czerny, and many, many more. This is by far the most fascinating and useful Beethoven edition on the market. The layout is perfect and easy to read. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear, well-edited editions, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Beethoven, Piano Sonatas: Op. 14, Nos. 1,2 / Op. 22 / Op. 26 / Op. 27, Nos. 1, 2 / Op. 28 (An Alfred Masterwork Library) (Paperback)
This is the first of three volumes of Beethoven Sonatas edited by Steward Gordon. It contains some of the most popular. The print is clear although some of the pages are overly cluttered with footnotes, but the editing is knowledgeable and specific. The Preface has interesting historical notes and performance comments and all-in-all this is an excellant student edition at a reasonable price.
