5.0 out of 5 stars By the composer - I highly recommend Gregory Partain's "Piano Works, Vol. II", August 26, 2007

This review is from: Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.23 "Appassionata"; Barnes, Brahms, Rachmaninov and Scarlatti (Audio CD)
This fine recording contains my "Toccata: Act of War," which was composed for Greg Partain. Greg's intuitive knowledge of my music is uncanny; he produced with very little coaching exactly what I have in mind. The technique is completely secure; even with as difficult a work as this, Partain is at ease with the mood shifts, momentum and physical stamina needed to project the brooding and explosive nature of this work.

Partain applies the same care to all the music on this CD. In particular, his continued exploration of the Beethoven sonatas with this "Appassionata" recording reveals moments of sublime reflection offset by places where you are literally pulled out of your chair.

I highly recommend this recording!

Larry J Barnes, composer of "Toccata: Act of War"

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.23 "Appassionata"; Barnes, Brahms, Rachmaninov and Scarlatti (Audio CD)
Dr. Partain plays with passion and with a touch that is pleasant to the ears. I truely enjoy listening to his music as I work, drive or sit at home. He is an outstanding pianist and I highly recommend this recording to anyone desiring classical music.
