A solid performance,

This review is from: Beethoven: Symphony No. 9, 'Choral' (RCA Victor Basic 100, Vol. 1) (Audio CD)
This is a solid performance of the most well renowned piece of orchestral music. This is no surprise for it is Zubin Mehta leading the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The recording craftsmanship is amazing. The choral voices in the last movement are placed correctly in the stereo mix as if they are an integral part of the orchestra (unlike some recordings where the voices sound detached. The addition of The Creatures of Prometheus (Andre Previn and the Royal Philharmonic) is a nice touch and it gives a nice contrast as to how Beethoven progressed to his masterpiece, the "Choral."
