5.0 out of 5 stars Even More from the Legendary Leonid Kogan, October 18, 2005
This review is from: Beethoven: Violin Concerto; Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 (Audio CD)
While I'm not currently buying Testament titles at the same rate I was a few years back, I simply could not pass up the various reissues with legendary Russian violinist Leonid Kogan (see my reviews of some of the other discs too). This CD features Kogan performing Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, both with Andre Vandernoot leading the Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire from 1957. For collectors, this release is a godsend for this recording of the Beethoven VC had been previously unpublished. I must confess Kogan's stereo remake of two years later with Silvestri conducting is better (alas it is OOP, last available on the now impossible to find Kogan "Artist Profile" title), but overall these are both glorious renditions, with crisp and clear mono sound. In all, this disc is yet another "testament" to a great classical CD label and a great violinist.
