This review is from: Beethoven - Les vents de Montreal: Symphonie no. 7, Septuour opus 20 (Audio CD)
The Montreal Winds play Beethoven's 7th Symphony arranged for a Septet as approved by Beethoven, himself. It feels much different than the full orchestral version and yet seems perfectly suited to this small group. It is played exquisitely and is a wonderful listening experience. 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 Horns, contrabasoon. Relaxed, dignified, elegant. Who knew this combination could work this well? The second, less familiar, work here is the Septuor, Op 20. Also played very well, but for me the 7th Symphony was worth seeking the CD by itself.
