I wasn't sure that Allister were going to be able to top Last Stop Suburbia, but they did by a long shot. You can hear a more mature direction and understanding while still remaining tied to their own sound. I definietly recommend this album.

This is a fun, talented punk group. Every song on "Blackout" rocks, and the lyrics are right on. "I Lied" (#8) through "Alone" (#14) just fly by, and each has it's own catchy tune and fun lyrics. I've got a 9 year old son, and while the lyrics are pretty salty (I sing loud, different words over them), he loves the beats."A Study in Economics" (#9) has a little Cheap Trick sound, and "Pegleg Sullivan" (#12) is a great piece of Chicago story telling. This CD is well worth the few bucks.

To start off I have been a huge allister fan since Dead Ends... I liked Suburbia because it showed progression within the band by tweaking the music slightly but keeping the same catchy lyrics that made Dead Ends such a great album. I have to admit, early demos for this cd had me worried that allister's light had run out. When the CD was released, it took me until now to buy the cd. But now I'm hooked! Allister is back and better than ever! This cd tells us that allister is one of the few bands who can change their music just enough to keep up with ever changing tastes in music but at the same time remains loyal to the fans who have loved allister since the beginning. This album is sure to please any true allister fan!

Although I still like Last Stop Suburbia, it has gotten stale in my CD player. Along comes Before the Blackout. At first listen I was not sure but after a few passes, I have to say this is equal to Suburbia. Unlike many other bands of this style Allister writes intelligent thought provoking lyrics as opposed to childish teen angst crap. They continue with punchy guitar, vocals, and all around great music. If you like Last Stop Suburbia, buy this you will not be disappointed. If you preferred Dead Ends and think that Last Stop was too pop then this may not be for you as it is a bit more evolved.

Wow! A Band that still embraces who they are, Rockers! This disc is everything you would expect from Allister and everything that made us fall in love with Allister in the first place. Do yourself a favor, have a listen to the samples and buy this CD. Thank you boys.

Better by getting younger,

Getting younger... doesn't make too much sense does it? When you listen to this album, you'll understand the statement actually fits.
I loved "Last Stop Suburbia", but it was actually more mature then this work. After a three year absence, Allister returns with guitars and broken hearted lyrics in hand. This is a pop punk/emo band, and there is no other topic that moves this type of fan then sad relationship songs. Little has changed in the composition of the music from "... Suburbia", which is quite refreshing as a long time fan. One major difference, however, is a bona-fide top single (even though it was never released). Track 5 "Blackout" is simply an unbelievable track, well worth purchasing alone if not interested in the entire CD. A ballad along the lines of "Pieces" by Sum 41, its a special piece of music.

I loved Allister's first two albums, and this third one I love it! The songs get a little more emotional in this album, but the tunes are still catchy. My favorite songs on the cd are Waiting and A Study in Economics, but all the songs fantastic. I highly recommend this CD and that you get it right now! Allister rocks!

I love allister...,
This review is from: Before the Blackout (Audio CD)
allister has been my favorite band ever since last stop suberbia. that cd is the greatest, and it is my main inspiration for writing music, and Tim and John are my heros. i had extremely high expectations for their follow up "before the blackout", and i realized i was a fool for thinking anything could top that Last Stop. i mean dont get me wrong, i listen to other stuff besides pop punk, and there are musically better cds out there, but this is just my opinion. anyway, this is still good, even though in my opinion, it doesnt really match last stop. its still pop punk, and im really happy about that. im extatic they didnt make as radical of a change as Blink made. buy this cd. its good, but i felt last stop was significantly better. they are staying true to pop punk, and thats all i really care about. for that, they are still my heros, even though John is not in the band anymore. tear......
