VISIONARY, HEALTH GURU, weight loss/detox expert, and natural foods icon, Ann Louise Gittleman has always been a trendsetter. Highly respected as a health pioneer and award-winning author of 30 books, she revolutionized weight loss in her New York Times bestseller The Fat Flush Plan - and now tackles the hazards of being bombarded 24/7 by electromagnetic pollution in her latest book Zapped. Ann Louise has been recognized as one of the top ten nutritionists in the country by Self and received the American Medical Writers Association award for excellence.
Always ahead of her time, Ann Louise set the pace for new health protocols in the 1990s with four more breakthrough books. She was the first to warn of the environmental hazards of parasites in her classic Guess What Came to Dinner? Parasites and Your Health. In Your Body Knows Best, Ann Louise was the first to discuss the blood type/weight theory and proclaim that one diet may not be right for every body − an idea that is only now becoming mainstream. She was the first to offer natural remedies for menopausal symptoms in Super Nutrition for Menopause and is widely credited as the first to popularize the term "perimenopause" in her New York Times bestseller, Before the Change.
Ann Louise forged new ways of thinking about obesity early on in her career. She was the first to proclaim that obesity was caused by the lack of dietary fats and the wrong kind of carbohydrates in her book Beyond Pritikin, published in 1988. In Beyond Pritikin, she predicted that the fat-free, carb-rich diet was creating weight gain, sugar cravings, fatigue and diabetes.

"The book caught my attention immediately because I've been reading about, studying, and writing about the effects of electropollution for several years. This book just adds further confirmation that we live in an 'electropolluted' world, and we need to protect ourselves the best we can... You can learn many, many more simple and more in-depth tips on how to protect yourself by reading Zapped."

"You are being 'Zapped' whether you know it or not! When artificial and manmade frequencies from cellphones, wireless computers, and cordless phones constantly bombard your system, they alter the body's natural electromagnetic balance and affect DNA, organs, and glands. Packed with scientific backup, find out what you can do about electropollution--a public health concern more insidious than cigarettes, asbestos, and HRT combined. The life you save may be your own--and your loved ones."

I almost returned this book when, as I was thumbing through it, I saw something about evening primrose oil. I thought it might be too off the wall, then I started reading. I have tried only two of Ms. Gittleman's "Peri-Zappers" and I can't remember when I last felt this good. It's like a miracle! What I can't understand is why no educated physician would tell me my symptoms may be due to a lack of progesterone or a magnesium deficiency. Do yourself a favor ladies and BUY THIS BOOK. It is well organized and easy to read. Each possible perimenopause problem is thoroughly explained in plain language. Once you understand what symptoms correlate to which perimenopause problem, you can make a determination about your own issues. Then, Ms. Gittleman presents a solution of either diet, supplements or both. She even recommends specific products and tells you where to buy them. This book has literally changed my life. I have struggled with horrible "PMS" symptoms for years, and one week with this book and I feel like a new woman. I HIGHLY recommend it and wish you all the renewed vigor I'm feeling.

As a woman of only 42, who certainly wasn't ready to risk hormone replacement so soon, I had no idea there was such valuable information available. Before you hit the hormones, definitely read this book ! I must confess that I was anxious for the quick cure, so I concentrated on the zappers rather than the diet suggestions initially. PeriZapper #2 eliminated the hot flashes within 48 hours! I am now systematically trying to add an herbal PeriZapper every 2-3 weeks, if the book indicates that it might address my symptoms. I have now read thoroughly the dietary information about the need for certain essential fats and the need to balance carbs vs. proteins. I have incorporated these suggestions into my diet. If you're feeling poorly as a result of perimenopause, BUY THIS BOOK ! You will NOT have to follow every single suggestion to achieve relief.

This review is from: Before the Change: Taking Charge of Your Perimenopause (Hardcover)
This book really helped me understand more about what was going on in my life. As a 37-year-old woman starting to go through some rather dismaying changes, I was completely confused over various articles and other books I had read -- many seeming to contradict each other. Gittleman takes the latest information and explains it in layman terms. In one section, she provides a chart of symptoms and their underlying problems. I quickly (and excitedly) identified myself, and put into practice several of her nutritional recommendations. This lady knows her stuff! I feel so much better than I did 5 or 6 months ago. Even if you don't follow her diet plan, which I don't because I'm one of those who tends to eat on the run, the information on the appropriate nutritional supplements for your symptoms are worth their weight in gold. Before reading this book, I just had no clue about the right nutrition to help with my problems. I simply added a few recommended supplements, and they worked! Gee, if I followed her diet plan, too, I'd probably be Wonder Woman!
