I decided to listen to Dying to Tell (Slaughter Creek) and saw this prequel and wanted to read it first. While I saw it was only 42 pages, I assumed it was at least a short story with some kind of satisfactory conclusion. In fact, it's just backstory to Sadie and Amelia's family. It tells you about their parents and grandparents and hints at the possible cause for Amelia's condition. While it does end, it does not have an ending. If you're getting ready to read Dying to Tell, you can skip Before She Dies. I'd feel better about having spent the time to read this if the author had offered it up on her website for free instead of charging for it on Amazon.

I enjoyed this little prequel to "Dying to Tell" -- it filled in some pieces of Sadie and Amelia's backstory that were mentioned in "Dying to Tell" but not elaborated on. You get to meet their parents, for example, who are dead twenty-five years when "Dying to Tell" starts, and hear their point of view about things. That was nice. I enjoyed their characters and how we get to see first hand the events that lead to their deaths.

I would, however, strongly recommend that you read this AFTER you read "Dying to Tell," which is what I did. I know it's a prequel and meant to come first, but really it's a "filling in the history" story, and I think if you read it first, you deny yourself the fun of discovering certain secrets along with Sadie in "Dying to Tell."

It's sort of like how in the V.C. Andrews Flowers in the Attic series, the evil grandmother's story didn't come until Book 4. If you'd known her full backstory before you'd read Book 1, you wouldn't have had the same reaction to Book 1 because you knew too much.

Let me get this straight. I have to wait til December to get the book which this book is a prequel to?? Am I reading this right?? Another thing for people complaining, "it's just a prequel", if you read under the title, that's what it says. Another hint, looks how many pages it is. I always look at that. Another thing I do not understand is, today's 12/25/12. Is the book coming out the end of the month, or when? Thank you......BB

Very suspenseful read from one of my favorite authors. Kept my attention from the first page to the last and I didn't see the ending coming. Can't wait for Slaughter Creek.

This book was extremely boring and short. The storyline was good but it felt like it was thrown together. No real thought.

Rita Herron is one of those rare authors who can write in a variety of genres--mystery, suspense, comedy--with equal skill. This prequel sets the stage for her upcoming Slaughter Creek suspense series and it really starts things off with a bang! A young couple expecting twins moves to a small town, thinking it will be the perfect place to raise a family. They are proven wrong in a dark, emotional, chilling tale that has left me VERY impatient for the first book in the series which comes out in December.

This is a prequel it only contains 5 chapters. With that being said, this is a great introduction to The Slaughter Creek books. I couldn't put it down and definitely look forward to reading The Slaughter Creek Series.
