Editorial Reviews

From the Author

John's life story is entertaining and amazing. I came away from the experience (and the reader will, too) feeling I knew Elvis Presley and that he was a really nice man who would have been very nice to me and (hopefuly!) liked me. When I approached John for the idea of this book, one of my personal missions, in addition to telling John's own story, was to show Elvis Presley as a human being during the 1970s, when he's most often misrepresented. John clears up everything and reminds us that even on an off night, Elvis Presley never failed his fans. Enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The only reason I gave it four stars is because of editing. Other than that, the content is excellent. John really loves and respects Elvis still, that much is evident. But, he is not afraid to talk about the tough stuff or give his opinion of all the hangers-on ie..Memphis Mafia. He has great stories in here you won't find anywhere else, and some you will but from his perpective. The differences here, over other Elvis books, is that one: it has the ring of truth, two: it does not try to rewrite in order to glorify the writer and three: you won't find any Elvis bashing here. Just great stories by a fantastic guitarist who loved, worked for and admired Elvis Presley. I highly recommend it!

Unique in it's own right, this is an interesting and educational read. I totally enjoyed reading about John's life and his various meetings and involvement with many musical artist. Elvis fans will appreciate the honesty of John and his one on one with the KING not to mention others in the entertainment industry. You will not be disappointed with this book.

the Author shows his writing chops enough in this biog to enhance the story, without making the story revolve around his talents as an author, which is refreshing. There isn't much by way of gratuitous verbage- just here's a guy with an incredible story...and I mean, really really interesting...dude met elvis on 3 seperate occassions YEARS apart, starting from a young kid, leading to his eventual employment.

I really enjoyed it, and recommend it to not only fans of elvis and music, but fans fo Biogs in general.

A great read by the "quiet" TCB band member. John has a sincere kindness and fresh approach to these memories he is sharing within these pages. His story is quite fascinating and enjoyable to read about...
he's definitely "been there, done that", yet his humility remains intact, and is definitely displayed here.
The book reads as if John is personally talking with you in person... I highly recommend it!

I gave this book four stars because it started off a little slow.
But did get better about the middle.
It is a pretty good book for any Elvis Fan.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It tells how as a little boy, Mr. Burton met Elvis and told him he couldn't play the guitar. Many years later, he went to work for Elvis and Elvis reminded him of their first encounter whereby Elvis told him "they would have an encounter in the future".

For the avid Elvis fans, this is a very touching account from John about his time with Elvis. The love and respect shines through loud and clear. However humble John was, it also gives you a peek into a career outside the Elvis world. John was a great musician in his own right.
