Book Description

Fairy tales always have happy endings; great love stories rarely do. Katie Mitchell is about to find herself in the heart of both. At sixteen, she is moving to a small town to live with her father and step-mother and that’s where she meets Luke Collier, the perfect recipe for teenage girl obsession: confidence, rebellion, and charm. And his best friend, Will Pierce, the cure for that obsession: strong, reliable, and emotionally available.

The three begin a lifelong journey into new adulthood together as friends, lovers, enemies, friends again, and more. Their journey is at times hilarious and other times heartbreaking. As time goes by, Katie has to face the truth that there are far worse things in the world than a broken heart, and nothing quite as beautiful as love.

About the Author

Heather Hudson was born in a small country town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. That was her first mistake because she’s a spoiled city girl if ever there was one. After graduating cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in English, from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, she lived exclusively in state capitols and held many dead end jobs that undermined the high priced education she was trying to pay off with said jobs. There were early attempts at newspaper journalism that left her unfulfilled because it was too much stale reporting with no room for creative embellishing. For the last several years Heather has been moonlighting as a stay at home mother of three and full time wife. Her most noteworthy achievements in literature include some epic love letters penned in adolescence, a rousing best man speech for her brother’s wedding reception, incalculable quick-witted texts, and the blog she has been using to entertain readers for the last couple of years. Heather is uniquely qualified to write romantic comedy style fiction because in her youth she fell in and out of love more than any other person in history, was the deliverer and recipient of many broken hearts, and can now find the humor in all of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before He sleeps by Heather Hudson November 28, 2013

Five Stars - Absolutely the best chick book I've ever read. It's perfect for a cold, drizzly afternoon. If you aren't crying at the end, you aren't female!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down! November 3, 2013

What a great story from Heather Hudson! I loved the suspense of what was going to happen when the three met up again. The characters were well developed, so I felt like I knew them. Of course, I was hoping for a chapter or two more, but isn't that always the case with great books. Thank you, Ms. Hudson, for your endearing tale of three people coming of age, figuring out the important things in life. Looking forward to the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars You will want to know how this one ends! October 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think the author added a personal touch to the ins and outs of being in love. The story takes you down a familiar path but hosts an assortment of conflicts saturating your heart with emotion. Characters thrive with individual behaviors, amusements and backstories! The inspiring settings effect each character and puts you where they are. Can't wait to read the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard To Put Down October 20, 2013
By JRB
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
For me, the sign of a good book is not wanting to put it down and that's exactly what happened with "Before He Sleeps".

Heather Hudson's attention to detail in character development draws you in with each passing chapter. You will find it hard not to get involved in the lives of the main characters on display. I found myself laughing, crying and hoping for the best yet to come.

And when the last word is written? Not only will you want the story to continue, but you will question whether the human heart is capable of loving so fully and completely.

Excellent work Heather Hudson...I'm anticipating more genius work in your future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Before He Sleeps October 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The only thing that would have made this book a better read was if I had been sitting on the beach under an umbrella while I enjoyed it. :) Heather's descriptions of how a teenage girl thinks, acts, behaves are dead on. Her characters are completely believable and real. Read it for yourself and find your heart pulled into a novel that holds your attention until the very end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! January 9, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I really like stories like this, that get you through every stage of a young relationship; that make you hold your breath for the romantic moments; that make you hurt when the characters are in trouble and fall apart; that make you love them more when they get back up, much stronger and knowing themselves better. I was so excited for Katie when she finally found the love she was looking for and I was glad that we got to see the next stage of her life and their life together where they love each other with the good and the bad and we get to feel their love grow with every page and with every word.

There were so many emotions coming through these pages, with all the drama and those tangled situations, it was almost like being in 17 again! But it was also full of substance - there was so much to laugh about, to smile about, and to care about... So much to enjoy. The end is heart breaking but it was done in a very heartfelt and sensitive way and I was not left wanting. Overall, this was a very good book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Love, Conflict & Bliss October 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a phenomenal story of young love with both conflict and bliss at every turn. The author guides us through the teenage characters' lives allowing us to truly feel and experience each emotion they go through. I laughed and sobbed and didn't want the story to end. Heather Hudson has a proven talent for creating depth to her character's and developing a relevant and genuine plot.

To me, a good book is one I can escape into. I feel what the characters feel, believe what the characters believe, and feel as if I'm apart of the story; instead of the reality that I'm outside looking in. This book does that. It's an excellent read and I can only hope she'll publish more! I couldn't get enough of this honest, sweet, and heartbreaking story. I am a fan for life.
