We Now Know What Men Think About!,
By
This review is from: Before I Let Go (Paperback)
This book was pretty good. It gave us an insight into what really goes on in a man's head/thoughts. It showed that men and women both play games when it comes to matters of the heart. I was disappointed when Brendan destroyed his relationship with his best friend and surprised as to who he actually ended up with. Nate tried to have his cake and eat it to, and in the end it caught up with him. By the way, what did Nate do for a living??? I realize the book was told from the standpoint of Cory. However, I wanted to read more dialogue between the characters and not so much narration. There was some drama, but it was more towards the end of the book than in the beginning. However, for a first time author, he did a pretty good job.

LET ME FIRST START BY SAYING THAT THIS BOOK IS WORTH OPENING UP. BUT THE CHARCTERS IN THIS BOOK I HOPE I NEVER RUN INTO ANYONE WHO IS SIMILAR OR LIKE THESE MEN ON MY LOVE CRUSADE!
TRIFILING CORY I DONT UNDERSTAND I WAS VERY UPSET AT HIM WHEN HE STARTED TO DATE HIS EX GIRLFRIEND SISTER! HOW COULD YOU. CORY YOU WERE WALKING ON DANGEROUS WATER! THE SISTER (NINA) SHE REALLY DISAPPOINTED ME I KNOW THEY SAY IN THE D.C. AREA THE RATIO OF MEN TO WOMEN IS 1 TO 10 BUT DID YOU HAVE TO CROSS THE LINES AND SLEEP WITH YA SISTER MAN! SHE GOT WHAT SHE DESERVE. NASTY NATE HE WAS OUTRAGEOUS! IT IS AMAZING HOW HE PLAYED WITH THOSE WOMEN HEARTS AND HE DID NOT CARE. THEN WHEN HE WAS READY TO OPEN HIS HEART THE MODEL CHIC RIPED IT OUT! GOOD MAN GONE BAD BRENDAN. HE WAS A GOOD GUY IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF CHAPTERS. BUT SOME HOW HE STARTED MODELING NATE BEHAVIOR.I DONT LIKE HOW HIS SITUATION ENDED IN THE BOOK. HE CRUSHED SOME POOR GIRL HEART BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE WITH A CHIC WHO LIED TO HIM ABOUT HER PAST. WHY BRENDAN? WHY NOT THE GOOD GIRL? HOW DID YOU END UP WITH THE EX? SHE WAS NOT WORTHY! THE LAST CHAPTERS I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING MORE.

At first i didn't think i would like this book but it actually turned out to be okay. The men in this book were a little stupid! They took advantage of a lot of women and they were also very confused and hurt a lot of people. I guess this is a learning experience book for men and women too.

These characters were truly unforgettable, especially the character Nate. From the minute I started I could not put this book down. A good read. - Juan Mendez Scott, author of "Trusting October."

Cory Dandridge, narrator of this novel and best friend to the other two main characters in this novel has loved and lost. His first love has haunted him during the course of his relationships and ultimately caused Cory to date some women in situations with red flags all over them!
Brendan Shue is the nice guy in the bunch. He treats his women with the ultimate respect and consideration. Trouble is, most of the women he dates takes his kind hearted ways for weakness when it comes to women and takes advantage of his generosity and selflessness. Nathan McCall is a DAWG! He feels he is the ultimate PLAYER and if you tell him any different well, then you're just hating! Nate will have to come to terms with his treatment of women and the boomerang of what goes around, comes back! Awesomely loaded with the male perspective on relationships and women in general. Great job by Darren Coleman. This was my first time reading one of his novels but it will not be my last.

This book was okay if you are interested in the trash this author thinks is in the mind of every male. I realize men think about sex a lot more than females, but this book is ridiculous. Also why do so many Black authors portray married women as cheaters in there novels? A bit over the top! Fifteen year old boys would love this book!

This review is from: Before I Let Go: A Novel (Paperback)
Since I read the phenomenal Do or Die and the laugh-out-loud Ladies Listen Up, my expectations of Darren Coleman are pretty high. I'll let this one slide, I guess. I contemplated putting it down for good several times throughout the book. The first half of the book was excruciating. I got bored reading about Nate's so-called strategy to dog women. Nate was no dog, he was a puppy! Now Brenda Hampton's Jaylin was a true dog - woof, woof! Cory, Brendan, and Nate were nothing to write home about. Their women problems were lame.
Most of the book was "told" to the reader. Relevant events would transpire and be narrated in simple paragraphs. Action scenes were very limited. For example, I was intrigued when Cory gave the open assistant position to a woman less qualified then the previous woman he'd interviewed. I was expecting a lot of drama to develop from that, but don't recall reading anything else about it. I believe Brendan was a department store manager...but his job was discussed minimally. Nate seemed to be very well-off with money to burn, but I really don't recall him ever going to work throughout the entire book. Did he even have a job? Was he a drug dealer? Was he living off of an inheritance? Plenty of focus was put on the women in these men's lives at the expense of everything else. The characters were completely one-dimensional. The book didn't even get interesting until the final few chapters. Suddenly there's a climax and a reason to read the sequel.

I enjoyed this book. It was kinda of slow at the beginning but then it picked up, boy did it pick up. I am interested to see what happened in the sequel and will be reading it next.

I am an avid reader and everyone told me that when I had my baby I would not have time to read for pleasure for a long time. Well my newborn is 6 weeks old. My husband bought me this book for Christmas and I finished it in a week. What kept me reading was that I couldn't predict what was going to happen. No, I may not have agreed with the choices of the characters but it is fiction and again it kept me on my toes. It's interesting reading from the point of view of men.
