Is this spring heeled jack?,
By
This review is from: Before You Knew Better (Audio CD)
Alright! I've been a Spring Heeled Jack listener for quite a while. If you were to play this to me for the first time, I would have told you that it's about time SHJ came out with a new album. It's almost like a combo of "static world view" and "songs from suburbia." anyways, as far as Edna's Goldfish, they ROCK! Their lyrics and vocals are awesome. The horn section is sweet! And the guitar does it just right along with a nice poppy beat. Great songs are "i'm your density" "sunrise to sunset" "If you want it" "purple" now don't think i'm throwing all my eggs in one basket here, but seriously, Edna's GoldFish is a REALLY GOOD band!...and, that's all. bye.

great all around ska cd,

this is a really really great cd. its extremely hard to find for a reasonable price, but whatever you get it for it is well worth it. the horns in this band are really complex and catchy and that really makes up for some extremely simple ska-guitar and bass lines. the lyrics are lacking, also, however, most of them are about some sort of lost love that seems a little too out there for a ska band such as this. oh and i would recommend their 2nd cd too, its not as good and the style is COMPLETELY different, but its cheaper and generally easier to find. my favorites on this cd are "im your density", pretty much a typical catchy ska song, "this is not here", a catchy song with some of the better lyrics and instrumentals, and "trace your steps", which is a really fast song with great horns. being in a band myself, i can say that this is a great first cd for a ska band. you wont be disappointed.

I was shocked this was the first release from this band... they have a really great sound and an even better live show. If you are a fan of SHJ, and other bands like them, you'd be out of your mind not to buy this CD.

After seeing Edna's Goldfish in concert, I was instantly hooked. After being stuck so long in punk rock limbo, this great NYC ska band was a breath of fresh air. I bought both CD's and can't wait for the next one to come out! If they ever play near you, make sure you catch the show; they're amazing! Who ever Edna is, I'm sure she's very proud of her goldfish!

Although I'm all the way over in the Midwest, I fell in love with these guys the first time I ever saw them, and bought their CD immediately. It was the best $10 I have ever spent. (and look, it's cheaper here.) This CD is so addicting that once you think you've had enough, you'll take it back out 2 days later and start the cycle all over again.

I mean these guys are #1 on my top 10 2nd being skavoovie and the epitones, and Skaholics, but this is the best ska band i've seen and gary the trumpet is a cool friend, he's great, anyway bout this cd it's in my cd player and i'm listenin to it on my comp everyday, but you must get this if u like anything: rock, metal, hip hop or anything cause ska is the music for the soul and Edna's Goldfish are the beating heart of Ska, I've seen these guys at where I live but I cant wait to see them at OLV Winter Ska Fest, I've seen them at Cancer Sux 1 & 2 which is a concert that for every dollar goes to cancer funds. Just buy the cd.

this cd is fun and even better live... yet it contains mostly a poppy sound that is great for skanking it live but lacks strong lyrics.

As a frequent music listener I am proud to say that this album is pure fun. Brian's voice has a certain melodic piece that is different from other ska-pop bands these days. They are hard working fella's who are going places. To say that I knew them when we were twelve is honorable.

Long Islands Greatest puts out a classic Ska CD,
This review is from: Before You Knew Better (Audio CD)
A really great band, their first CD captures a lot of the energy that made them so popular here on Long Island. the songs have a great tempo and a mighty horn section. I suggest CD to any ska fan. Also, look for the music video "Veronica Sawyer" sometime in fall of 99 when their second album comes out, which I am looking forward to a lot. Congrats to ednas goldfish on a great cd!

I saw Edna's Goldfish live in concert. They were a suprise guest at a Reel Big Fish concert I was at. They are the most amazing Ska band I have ever seen live. There wasn't a single person in the place who wasn't skanking to the tunes. I had to go out and buy this album. Every song on the album is amazing. Anyone who is a serios ska fan should pick this one up
