Biography

Fairport Convention were a highly influential English folk-rock band from the late 60s. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1968, but wasn't a commercial success. It took until their third album, 1969's Unhalfbricking, for them to gain mainstream recognition. The album reached No.12 in the charts and is considered one of the best British folk-rock albums ever made.

However, tragedy struck… Read more in Amazon's Fairport Convention Store

These two CD's are a welcome treat for Fairport Convention fans. This line-up includes Sandy Denny back on board and is one of the very best of countless Fairport's ever captured on tape. Recorded live in Colorado in 1974 this tape has traded hands among collectors for many years and thanks to Dave Pegg this release has now been made available. This is a jammier Fairport than by today's standards but remember this recording is from another era. Trevor Lucas shares vocal duties with wife sandy and many of his tunes shine as brightly as her's. The inclusion of "Bring Em' Down" is worth the purchase price alone. This tune features a cosmic instrumental section featuring Swarb's fiddle doing things that would make the Grateful Dead green with envy. A epic version of "Sloth" is also a keeper. The jig's & reels are here and lot's of Sandy's songs as well. This is a very enjoyable listen for fan's, and I would give these Disc's more stars if the sound quality was better. That said if you enjoy Fairport these disc's will be a welcome addition to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars untitled, August 4, 2003

Although the sound quality is poor in parts , and the band sound as though the bar bill will be higher than the gig pays ( yet again ) this 1974 live recording is a great set for fans of Fairpot or Sandy Denny. It is wonderful to hear Sandy get inside the tunes and weave some magic moments. The boys in the band are really getting away with the tunes by this time and as much as I hate to single anyone out Jerry Donahue really is brilliant on these discs.an underated player in a very underated band.
Fairport where no slick roadshow of studied proffesionalism, and as with many great live bands it is the slightly sour moments that elevate the sweet to real heights.
Enjoy.
