Book Description

March 1, 1994

Couples often spend more time preparing for the one-day event of their wedding than they do for the actual marriage, which is a lifelong event. Michael Cavanagh asserts that simply dating and courting, even living together, do not constitute preparation for marriage. Cavanagh encourages couples to relfect on the major life-change they are making, and presents them with a way of building a solid foundation for a lifelong committment.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Busily anticipating the wedding day, many couples fail to plan for the lifelong relationship that marriage should be. Believing that considerably more is called for than planning a wedding, Cavanagh proffers a premarital counseling program. Although he doesn't discuss finances much, Cavanagh does detail such important marital issues as communication, sexuality, and parenthood. Citing real-life examples, Cavanagh offers very practical advice, even to suggesting specific words couples can use to deepen communication. Each chapter concludes with discussion questions to wife and husband to answer individually, then discuss together. Suggestions for couples working with ministers also appear. A comprehensive resource for preparing to have a mutually satisfying marriage. Patty O'Connell

This review is from: Before the Wedding: Look Before You Leap (Paperback)
At last there is a book that addresses real compatability issues. Its a great resource to use before going into marriage or any serious type relationship to help pin-point problem areas you both may have. Its a good forum for creating discussion on issues that i would have never thought may be a problem. I'm definately glad that I bought it...it certinaly has kept me from being completely blinded by love and help me find someone who is right for me.
