2.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't impressed., June 20, 2009

(REAL NAME)
The book cover is thin, flimsy, and one corner was bent when I received it. The illustrations are cute but the content was "so so" and the term "test tube babies" really isn't used anymore. I wouldn't recommend this book. I just wasn't that impressed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduces the topic to an IVF-conceived child, May 17, 2007
This short book features a young bear who was conceived by IVF. The bear (drawn as probably a boy, but somewhat neutral) asked his parents to "tell me the story about your wish for a baby." The book is the parents' response -- that they tried and tried for a baby, they were very sad, then went to a special doctor who took a special cell from Mommy and one from Daddy. The book says Mommy was given some medicine and that the cells were combined in a lab dish. The baby grew inside Mommy. For our family, this was an introduction to the concept of IVF to our daughter. It doesn't use any biological terms (sperm or ova), so it's pretty general and leaves the door open for the child to ask questions.
