5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent thought provoking questions for any couple
This book was recommended to my fiance and I and I am SO GLAD. So many topics related to marriage that I wouldn't have thought of are included in easy to follow chapters. It is heavily Christian in nature which was perfect for us. I think every couple considering marriage should work through this workbook.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only good if you barely know each other.
This book raises a frightening question-- do people really get married who know so little about each other?? Perhaps this book would be useful in an arranged marriage where people meet shortly before the ceremony. But if you don't know, for example, what your fiance majored in in college, and what hobbies s/he enjoys, you should stop thinking about marriage and go out...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to help open communication with your partner!, December 17, 1999

I think this is a great book to help open communication with your partner. Marriage is the biggest decision you will ever have to make in your life. Why not learn all you can about the person you are going to marry before you say "I do"? Most of the questions are really common sense but, this book organizes them for you and gives you a good outline to start from. Any couple using this book is sure to have countless hours of great discussions. The only thing that I think is missing in this book is a work book to go along with the book. Otherwise, great book to help couples learn about each other!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every engaged couple should read this book!, August 27, 1999

This review is from: Before You Say 'I Do': Important Questions for Couples to Ask Before Marriage (Paperback)
This book delves into important issues that engaged couples often overlook when planning their wedding. Reading it stimulated some very enlightening discussions between my husband-to-be and me about things which had never come up when we were dating but which we would have to deal with during our marriage. I learned a lot about my fiance and myself with the help of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Older but Still Good Useful, June 7, 2002

This review is from: Before You Say 'I Do': Important Questions for Couples to Ask Before Marriage (Paperback)
This book has been around quite a while but I still found some very useful advice and tips on conversations that we should have before deciding to get engaged. However, I did feel that there were some topics that weren't covered or covered with enough depth.

Another enourmously useful piece is 1000 Questions for Couples which is the most comprehensive material on the subject I have found. I discovered it at questionsforcouples. com

Perhaps this book would be useful in an arranged marriage where people meet shortly before the ceremony. But if you don't know, for example, what your fiance majored in in college, and what hobbies s/he enjoys, you should stop thinking about marriage and go out on a second date. I was hoping this book would provide insightful questions that would lead to deep conversation. But no. The exercises are the end of Getting the Love You Want by Hendrix are much more conducive to discussion than these questions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Beginning Point for Serious Couples, September 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Before You Say 'I Do': Important Questions for Couples to Ask Before Marriage (Paperback)
This has been a great tool in getting my boyfriend and I to talk through different issues before marriage. Some of the questions we've skipped over simply because we knew the answers already. Others we've asked before, but it's always good to get a refresher! Other questions were ones we've never thought of before, which are exciting to ask.

I would recommend this book for any couple who is seriously thinking about marriage because it gives a bunch of ideas for you and your special someone to talk about to get to know one another better. It's also a good tool to help determine whether you guys are really right for one another. There is also a section of questions to ask family and friends, which is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It, February 21, 2007
The cool thing about this book is that it isn't corny. After we went through it, I realized that I knew the answers to most of the questions but it was good to revisit them and then be able to say Okay.... I am ready to get married. Plus your partner will be nicely surprised to know how much he has been sharing, you actually remembered about him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Questions - Often Overlooked!, January 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a part-time minister who helps couples design and compose their own wedding ceremonies, I found this book helpful - as a 'tickler' to me in my interviewing and working with couples as well as a book to recommend to couples who are thinking about getting married. In my day job, as a therapist, I see too many couples who did not take the time to ask themselves and each other some of these important questions before deciding to marry.
This book can be helpful if given without judgment in the spirit of friendship and support.

If I had read and answered the questions in this book before I got married the first time, I most likely would have not married my first wife and it would have saved us a lot of heart ache. This second time around, not married yet, I am going through all the questions of this book and they are very poignant and practical. Every couple contemplating marriage needs to buy this, read it, answer all the questions together. It will give them a better picture of the realities they will be facing as a married couple and it will cause them to reflect and ponder the real issues perhaps causing the poor thinking due to infatuation to subside. I highly recommend it.

This review is from: Before You Say 'I Do': Important Questions for Couples to Ask Before Marriage (Paperback)
This book covers many basic questions, but there are also questions that people don't often think about. It's a good idea to go through the questions (not all of them, but maybe the top 10 of your choosing) with your partner just to start a dialogue. Makes for good conversation when you are in the car or otherwise bored.
