4.0 out of 5 stars Good for what it was intended to be
This package set is very good for what it was intended to be: a very general nutrition and exercise information resource. HOWEVER, if you have a basic knowledge of the food pyramid, exercise, and pregnancy hazards (alcohol, tobacco, caffiene) I would not recommend spending the money. The book is not more in-depth than the video, only six reciepts are included, and only a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money and Time !
I bought a book based on recommendations above and I can't describe how deeply disappointed I was. This pamphlet (not even a book) and video DO NOT WORTH the money it cost: absolutely basic information for dummies. The pamphlet/video can be summarized in one sentence: Eat right, don't drink, don't smoke, take your vitamins and exercise. Who doesn't know that! All...

HOWEVER, if you have a basic knowledge of the food pyramid, exercise, and pregnancy hazards (alcohol, tobacco, caffiene) I would not recommend spending the money. The book is not more in-depth than the video, only six reciepts are included, and only a handful of exercises are available. This package is very limiting in scope. My advice: try your local library first before you buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for anyone who is planning for a pregnancy., September 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
My husband and I strongly recommend the Before Your Pregnancy video and booklet! Everyone is full of advice about what to do while you are pregnant, but this video provides equally valuable information about what to do BEFORE you get pregnant. When future moms and dads consider what a big responsibility and undertaking pregnancy is, they will agree that we all need this pre-pregnancy information. As I sit here writing this review, I look over at my happy, healthy 8 week old, and I am VERY thankful that this video and booklet helped us make good decisions about preparing for pregnancy. My husband appreciated the information on what and how much we should be eating, how much exercise we should be getting, and specific things he could do to help with conception. The information continued to be useful because after I became pregnant I was morning sick and my husband could help make sure I was still eating the right things. Before Your Pregnancy is a valuable resource for anyone who is planning to start a family!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE TO READ BUT........, March 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
what I loved most about this was that I didn't have to! I love to read and loved the booklet that came with Amy's video, but I am busy. It was great to just sit down, watch the video, and in a very reasonable amount of time, be full of information and motivation. Best of all, my husband sat down and watched it with me (the second time! ) and he loved it, too. I can be pretty sure I would have read up on this topic but I know that my husband would not -- this way he didn't have to. We were both enlightened by the info regarding the need for men to get "fit for pregnancy" and it made it fun for us to work together. It was almost like having an expert on the subject sitting in our livingroom! Also, I enjoyed the recipes and the common sense ideas for adding "health and nutrition" to food I am already cooking - I really didn't have to alter my whole cooking style to follow Amy's recommendations. What I'd like to say to Amy Ogle is "THANKS! Watching your video was the easiest and most educational hour I (we! ) have had in front of the TV in a long time! It was worth every penny!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific tool to use before trying to get pregnant!, February 9, 1999

This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
This book and video combination is an extremely valuable tool for both men and women to use before they start trying to conceive. It stresses the importance of proper nutrition and excercise in the critical 90 days before conception. For optimal health of your future child, you need to follow a proper diet for 90 days before trying to get pregnant, and the author points out that this is true for both the man and the woman, which is something I hadn't heard before.

I was impressed that the author is both a registered dietician and educated and experienced in exercise physiology. She knows her stuff, and that is very apparent in the practical guide described in the booklet. She explains what each partner should do in layman's language. I also liked the accompanying video tape, which is something couples can view periodically for motivation and to keep them on track.

This is a great book/video and I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering having a child, or who has had difficulty in getting or maintaining a pregnancy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!, August 31, 1999

This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
"Countless, unseen details are often the only difference between mediocore and magnificent." Ms. Ogle's book and video exceeded my expectations and as a registered dietitian myself, not only will this book be a great professional resource but also a great personal resource. The information presented is clear and to the point and can be put to use immediately. Each time I have seen the video and read the booklet - I have taken a few more reminders and tips away. This is information that all "moms-to-be" can never hear too much of! It is very motivating and comprehensive with a personal and professional touch. The work and quality put into this video and book shine through. I cannot wait to put it to practice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I've been looking for!, August 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this resource. Perhaps it was because I was really searching for someone/something who would compassionately discuss what my husband and I could do to prepare for conceiving our first child. This video and booklet kit had that personal feel. I also liked being able to connect a face with the person who wrote it (and she was pregnant in the video--a good sign!). Some of what I know I should be doing with nutrition and fitness was reinforced, but other information was new and specific to my needs. I also like the way my hips, legs, and stomach feel after having done the mini workout at the end of the video three times this week.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very introductory set, October 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
I agree that Before Your Pregnancy can be helpful, if any experience with nutrition or a healthy lifestyle is limited. It covers the basics, but doesn't help too much with specifics. But the fact that it puts the responsiblity of parenting, before and during pregnancy, in the hands of mother and father is perhaps the best introduction it can provide.

5.0 out of 5 stars preparation is the key to success!, June 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Before Your Pregnancy : Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy -- Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise (Book and Video) (Paperback)
Before Your Pregnancy was a delight to watch and very informative. I felt like real people, just like myself, were talking to me and what they were saying made sense. This video and instructive booklet made eating right and getting in shape, before I was trying to get pregnant, something I could do and do well. What a great feeling it left me with to know my husband and I could do something to make the healthiest baby even before I was pregnant. I have given this video/booklet as gifts to a number of friends who are starting to think about getting pregnant and they loved it too! Thanks Amy Ogle for making it look easy!
