A prime compilation from the Eno/Cluster family, Begegnungen features solo, duo, and trio recordings circa 1976-1984. These include pieces from various configurations of Eno, Moebius, Roedelius, Plank, and percussionist Mani Neumeier. The compositions are strong and inventive, and the music, an eclectic mix of progressive Krautrock and artistic, ambient electronica, is the best of its genre. All the material is synth-based and mostly upbeat, even bubbly at times. Water. 2005.

Similar to its counterpart, this cd was a compilation from the German Sky Records label that showcased several tracks from the German duo Cluster, a solo effort from each of its members (Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius), a track from Moebius, producer Conrad Plank, and former Guru Guru drummer Mani Neumeier, and 2 tracks from Eno's work with Cluster (tracks 3 & 7 on this cd).

As with the other cd, Eno's efforts with Cluster can be found on their 2 cds- "Cluster and Eno," and "After the Heat," both of which are bona fide classics. The shame here is that the other tracks on this cd are also on cds that are out of print currently- a chance to look into Grman synth music is lost in this case...

An excellent collection nonetheless..comes highly recommended should it come back in print (and I'm sure it will..Gyroscope Records who issued this re-issue in the mid 90's, is a very good label for such re-releases)

Beautifully remastered, Begegnungen is again available on CD. If you are not overly familiar with the collaborations between Eno, Plank and Cluster, this is a nice place to start. However, like its companion, Begegnungen II it is a compilation of tracks available on albus such as After the Heat, Cluster and Eno and others. However this music was incredibly ahead of its time with its electronic landscapes and does not sound dated at all. It also serves as a nice compilation of this period but the albums themselves are essential even if sometimes difficult to find and pricey.

Unfortunately when I originally ordered this item, I forgot that I already owned it. I requested a cancellation very late and the vendor courteously obliged. I am very sorry for the oversight and will definitely visit this store again to buy something I do not already own.
