Insightful Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beggars Can Be Chosen (Paperback)
Beggars Can Be Chosen in an insightful, down-to-earth book that is hard to put down once you get started. The author brings theology down to the level of everyday people without any note of condescension. A must-read if you, too, want to learn how to follow Jesus and bring others along with you for the journey.

Good devotional theology,

One of the best ways to understand this book is to understand where it came from. Back in the mid 1980s Chris Maxwell was youth pastor of New Covenant Assembly of God in Winter Springs, Florida. At that time the church met at a Seventh Day Adventist Church, but owned beautiful wooded property with a small home that was used for church offices and youth group meetings. The church building hadn't yet been built on the property. Chris and I used to meet there for prayer before youth group, and Chris spent much time there praying alone as well. One day, right before our afternoon prayer meeting, he told me that while praying God gave him seemingly hundreds of titles for sermons and sermon series. _Beggars Can Be Chosen_ was among these, and Chris preached this sermon series as one of the first in his own church, Sand Lake Assembly of God, when he started it with New Covenant's blessing in the late 1980s. After so long a gestation period, it's gratifying to see these sermons finally released in book form. Like many of Chris' sermons, these essays reflect Chris' Biblical, down to earth, and personally felt experience of God in the world. It's not another manipulative how-to manual for evangelism, but a devotional theology of evangelism gleaned from Chris' walk as a Christian and Christ's own approach to those who needed him. It's a book we need to read, not only for ourselves but for the sake of those around us. Jim Rovira<...

Beggars Can Be Chosen,
By Jack Babcock (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beggars Can Be Chosen (Paperback)
The author does a wonderful job of simplifying evangelism by showing us how Jesus did it. It is easy to read and understand and well-supported by biblical references. The book is an inspiration to all thinking Chrsitians who look for direction to get on with Christ's work.
