The Original Instruction Book for Acrylic Decorative Painting,
By Port Wynn "Yankee" (PNW, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beginners Guide to Freehand Decorative Painting/Jackie Shaw Studio Publication #40 (Paperback)
Way back when I was first starting to explore painting this book was published by Jackie Shaw. Other than Pricilla Hauser, who worked in oil, and was "the original one-step painting instructor" there was Jackie. She helped teach millions of people the foundations that gave them the skills to see shapes and color, size and texture, and to paint what they saw in acrylics. And, she made it fun, not hard. At the time there were no mediums that gave you hours of "open" time. You had to work fast. Teaching the principles is time consuming, not fast. Jackie used folk art skills to give both the folk artist and those who wanted to go into fine art, an entrance. She openned the door for many who follow in her footsteps. This was the book that brought those lessons to us. There is lots of inspiration in this book and freedom to explore once you know the basics. Even today, all artists are taught to look for the shapes of an object. Jackie brought that lesson home. In the 80's I was able to teach a cross section of kids to love art and acrylics using her techniques. Although I may never know how they used that skill in their lives, I know where they learned it and how. Thank you Jackie.
