As a Mah jongg instructor, I try to read everything I can about the game in order to help my students learn more easily. After reading this book, all I can say is if you are interested in learning to play Mah Jongg buy this book!! It will help you. It is clearly written, beautifully illustrated, and understandable by the most beginner of beginners. It will also help you later as you improve your game. Handy for experienced players too, as it will clarify many misunderstandings people may have when playing. Go forth and Mahj! BB

Of the five books I've purchased this one is without a doubt written for the beginner. And, it will be useful for as long as I play the game of Mah Jongg! This is a very easy book to follow. I have been playing American Maj Jongg for over a year. This book provides well written easy to follow explanations and instructions for novice as well as others who have some experience. The author provides quizes to help the reader check his understanding at the end of each chapter. The best parts of the book for me were the exercises he provided for individuals to practice such skills as chosing what hand to try to play from the card. You can't go wrong with this book if you want to play American Maj Jongg (National or American).
