I bought this book for my 11 year old son who has been interested in Stop Motion Animation for quite some time. It was a good choice. This book answered his questions about software and cameras. It has very good advice for setting up a small animation studio (which we will be doing next week). It has chapters on a variety of animation techniques from traditional clay animation, to puppets, to sand. It gave him some ideas he wouldn't have thought up on his own.

I recommend this as a very good first book for a new animator.

Mary Murphy put together an absolutely wonderful book. It is not only a great book for instruction (for self or group), but an absolute joy to read. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to start animation or claymation. I find it fundamental to instructing young teens as well as younger children.

I purchased this book for my 12 year old son who likes making stop motions videos of Nascars, but this book was all about clay animation and cartoons. I don't give this book high marks because it is not very interesting and just covers a limited subject matter. The way the book is written and laid out it not very engaging for kids.
