The book is essentially as its title states: "A Beginner's Guide to the MCMI-III"
The book contains chapters related to Millon's theory of personality, MCMI-III composition, general guidelines for administering and scoring the MCMI-III, interpretation of the validity and modifying indices, interpretation of the clinical and severe personality pattern scales, interpretation of the clinical and severe syndromes scales, and writing a psychological report...

Too basic to be of any use
I bought this book for my Personality Assessment class and have never used it since. I use the MCMI regularly, but this book is simply too basic for anyone who actually plans on using the MCMI to write reports. I strongly recommend against buying this book and instead buying something which will actually help in the interpretation of the MCMI. Just jump to an actual...

The book is essentially as its title states: "A Beginner's Guide to the MCMI-III", April 29, 2009
This review is from: A Beginner's Guide to the MCMI-III (Hardcover)
The book contains chapters related to Millon's theory of personality, MCMI-III composition, general guidelines for administering and scoring the MCMI-III, interpretation of the validity and modifying indices, interpretation of the clinical and severe personality pattern scales, interpretation of the clinical and severe syndromes scales, and writing a psychological report based on MCMI-III results, and it also contains appendices with case vignettes and an example interpretative report. This book is recommended for students and clinicians who are new to the MCMI-III. It is easy to read and understand and provides an overview of the theoretical foundation and clinical utility of the MCMI-III. It likely would be viewed by advanced clinicians as rather basic and in need of supplementation by other texts and materials related to the MCMI-III and Millon's theory of personality.

Too basic to be of any use, February 21, 2012

I use the MCMI regularly, but this book is simply too basic for anyone who actually plans on using the MCMI to write reports. I strongly recommend against buying this book and instead buying something which will actually help in the interpretation of the MCMI. Just jump to an actual guide to the MCMI - actually, the manual that comes with the test from the publisher is quite good. If you want something more, get Choca's book. Not all beginners books are so useless - Butcher's Beginner's Guide to the MMPI, for example.

Great book for MCMI-III beginners!, June 22, 2011
This review is from: A Beginner's Guide to the MCMI-III (Hardcover)
As a doctoral psychology student, I remember taking Objective Methods and having to learn the MMPI-2 and then we had 3 weeks to learn the MCMI-III. We were assigned this book as required reading. And thank God. I still have supervisors and sometimes professors that ask me to lend it to them, as it's a great refresher for the instrument. Two thumbs up!
