very very good, August 28, 2003
This review is from: The Beginner's Guide to Mantras: How to Use Sacred Sound to Create Abundance, Health, and Spiritual Insight in Your Life (Audio CD)
Sanskrit mantra(s) for any and all faiths. A lecture-style presentation with some history, some theory, many examples. Mantra are repeated only a couple of times, enough to get the pronunciation. Classic mantra including Gayatri. Very clear sound quality, good voice dynamics. Little or no distracting noise. A short helpful booklet gives transliterated Sanskrit mantra and some brief explanation. Good for beginners or for those desiring some assurance. A sober, high quality presentation.

Great Entry Level Introduction, July 29, 2005
This review is from: The Beginner's Guide to Mantras: How to Use Sacred Sound to Create Abundance, Health, and Spiritual Insight in Your Life (Audio CD)
It can be challenging designing a learning method for something as ancient and potentially complex, as Sanskrit Mantra, especially when the teacher is not there! But I believe Thomas Ashley-Farrand's clear and powerful pronunciation, and understanding of the Western mind is unique so that he's able to pull off a great achievement in this CD. He provides great coverage of the basics of mantra, including seed sounds, and a background to the spiritual discipline, moving into some core yet powerful mantras. I'm not sure if I would have been able to learn as quickly from another teacher's CD, so I highly recommend this if like me, you had never attempted mantra before.
I hesitate to give 5 stars only because I also went ahead and purchased Mr Ashley-Farrand's Healing Mantras CD and book. Those products have even more useful insights and information, and I felt perhaps it made this particular CD superfluous, but its "horses for courses" and I think I'm one of those people who wants to take it further.
So if you simply want an introduction, dip your toe in the water, and some experience and to familiarise yourself with the benefits of mantra, definitey try this CD out, its low risk, you can always go further later if you wish. I was able to make a present of this copy once I got my head around the Healing Mantra version, which includes 90% of the material on this CD.
Regards,
Daniel John Hancock
