This book clearly sends the novice silk painter through the basic techniques of this exciting craft. The colour photographers are brilliant, showing step by step ways to acquire the skills needed for silk painting and so complete the various projects within the book. Add this to the shopping basket now it's a must!

The author teaches various silk painting techniques step-by-step. For each project she provides a picture of the finished piece, a drawing of the design that can be photocopied, a materials list and pictures for each painting step. The instructions are clear, the projects appealing. The book also has one of the clearest instructions how to make your own steam-fixing device and how to steam fix. It's a great book that will get you started.

This book is beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the information inside is scant. I learned more surfing the web than I did from this book.

An excellent addition to your silk painting reference books. Colorful pictures. Simple directions and traceable patterns. Simple steam fixing directions too.

The Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting is a joy! Easy to read with lots of demonstration illustrations. For the beginner, the book offers a number of easily understandable techniques and projects that give you a sense of accomplishment. A great purchase!

Mandy Southan's "Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting" is a fine little book that offers a good introduction to silk painting. It is visually beautiful. She even introduces the basic required materials in striking labeled color photos. Mandy Southan also devotes 5 pages to the effects of silk paints and dyes. On the first two, she shows examples of how the paints and dyes interact with each other using different wet and dry methods. She devoted three pages to color mixing in a very neat table format--all very helpful for the beginner. The rest fo the book is devoted to 14 silk painting projects all with a variety of resist methods. At the end of the book, she has a helpful illustrated glossary and an illustrated page listing common mistakes. I highly recommand this useful introduction to silk painting.Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting
