This review is from: Beginning Blues Guitar (Paperback)
Literally, this was my first guitar book and I am fortunate that it was. I had played bass from middle school through a few years after college and stopped when the reality set and I went back to school for a very non-music career. Now, a million years later, I decided to get serious about guitar.
Arlen's instructional media are legendary and for good reason - they're very good. Now his lessons are even on Gibson's website under the Lifestyle tab, although it is a little weird to see him without his trademark Tele in his hands. I learned what the book promises: the basics; I also learned three 12 bar blues songs from the lead guitarist perspective. In the process I learned scales without the tedium of repition. The tablature is modern and really easy to follow. This book picks up the beginning blues guitarist from the foundation, and provides some real songs to practice. I have a Fender C-DEC amp and I learned to play along with drums, bass, and a little accompaniment that it provides, and it was fun. This book helped to build some confidence, and has led to more of Arlen's books. |
