5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I am a huge Beatles fan, and since nobody else has reviewed this dvd yet, I figured that I would. It is put together nicely and includes some new footage as far as I can tell, but then again I don't already own every Beatles' dvd out there. Unlike some dvds which just include a bunch of clips with no explanations, this documentary gives a brief history of the Beatles so...

1.0 out of 5 stars Far below expectations
I must admit, I baught this DVD due to the two good reviews it had on this site. I intended to use this DVD to help teach the Beatles in a music appreciation class. This is a horrible documentary. The production qualities are very poor, it is long and drawn out, and there is clearly some "screaming girls" sounds dubbed on it. I would not recommend this to any one...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, October 23, 2004
This review is from: From The Beginning To The End (DVD)
I am an inveterate Beatles' fan and I admit I enjoyed this. There was some fresh film footage, but very little in the way of new material.

Still, it is a good "starter" film for people just becoming aware of the Beatles and their meteoric influence and indelible stamp on culture. I would far recommend the Beatles' Anthology over this one.

There are plenty of better DVD's about the Beatles out there. Save your money for one of those.

2.0 out of 5 stars a slapdash effort to make a quick buck, November 21, 2007

The Beatles--From The Beginning To The End is a 56 minute DVD that could have and should have been better. The quality of most of the footage is rather poor. Even the footage with John and Yoko taken in England in the 1970s was fuzzy and out of focus. I got the impression that this was a slapdash effort to make a quick buck telling the history of The Beatles.

The video pretty much tells the story of the band in chronological order. We see them getting their start with their "Mersey Beat" music and how they got the "good boy image" from their manager Brian Epstein. We also get footage and talk by the narrator regarding their most famous, well received concert appearances and tours mostly from the early years of the band's existence. No footage from their tour of Japan is available; and we don't see any footage of them working in their studio as they did for so many years, either.

While we see some footage of John and Yoko Ono taken probably relatively soon after the band broke up, we get no such footage at all regarding the other three Beatles.

Overall, this DVD is probably best for people who want an introduction to The Beatles' story. Diehard fans will find little new information here; and they may well have seen all of the footage already. Sigh.

The DVD literally has no extras. This is a budget DVD made for a quick buck.

Overall, The Beatles-From The Beginning To The End is best suited for newcomers to The Beatles experience. Other more diehard fans will have to look elsewhere for a proper retrospective--which this is not.

It is put together nicely and includes some new footage as far as I can tell, but then again I don't already own every Beatles' dvd out there. Unlike some dvds which just include a bunch of clips with no explanations, this documentary gives a brief history of the Beatles so that the footage makes sense for a beginner. There are also some good shots of John and Yoko's bed-in for peace that I hadn't seen before on some of their other dvds. Although the Beatles Anthology is by far the best set out there, this one is worth the money if you don't have $50 to spend on the Anthology dvds.
