5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful riding guide for beginners of all ages.
This little book is jam-packed with tips, advice and guidance. It explains the basic gaits and tells you how to ride them. The author's clear explanations are a great help for finding the proper position on a horse and for helping a rider learn to feel what the horse is doing. And the book is small enough to tuck in your jacket while riding for quick reference. It's...

This book makes a nice gift for horse lovers but is a bit small for the price. It could be a few more pages for the price or lower the price by a few dollars. My daughter really liked the book so all-in-all it's not a bad deal. I bought the other 2 books in the English Exercises series and my daughter also enjoyed them as well.

The author's clear explanations are a great help for finding the proper position on a horse and for helping a rider learn to feel what the horse is doing. 5.0 out of 5 stars I felt a great sense of accomplishment using this book, February 12, 1999

This book was very, very helpful to me. I was what is called a rank adult beginner when I bought this book. It provided me with clear directives to go along with my weekly lessons. I've learned how to post correctly, work on my sitting trot, ride a corner properly, make big, round circles, and even canter. When my instructor said I passed the test at the end of the book, I was thrilled! I've already purchased the Intermediate book and although I know it might take longer until I can take the Intermediate test, I like the step-by-step approach of these books. I'm very goal oriented. I'm psyched.

Give easy to understand directions and takes all the guess work out of learning to ride. Great for riders working alone as well as for instructors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Little too basic, July 18, 2011

This book is almost too basic, even for the most green horse just learning. Has some good exercises, but wish it was just a little more advanced and had a few more exercise patterns.

1.0 out of 5 stars Of minimal value, April 27, 1999

This review is from: Beginning English Exercises (Arena Pocket Guides) (Spiral-bound)
This book is of minimal value to anyone interested in riding. One of the "exercises" is halting correctly, however important, i was expecting more thought put into this book.
