Welcome to Beginning Guitar for Adults. I'm glad you have chosen the guitar as your instrument. Thanks for choosing this book to help get you started.

This book and the other two books in this series- Rock Guitar for Adults and Blues Guitar for Adults-makes certain assumptions:

1.As an adult, you have a busy, stressful life and want your guitar education to be enjoyable, painless and direct. You don't want a lot of preliminaries. You want to get right to it.

2.You're pretty smart. You're not new to life, you're just new to the guitar.

This book focuses on the most important aspect of guitar: playing songs! Why else would you want to play a musical instrument? The book you are now holding in your hands starts you off with chords and songs in a variety of styles-folk, reggae, rock and blues. I say, "Get on the fast track."

You should be consistent in your practice habits. Play a little every day and a lot whenever you can. Use this book in the order it is presented and you will get where you want to go quickly. Then, keep the ball rolling and pick up Rock Guitar for Adults and/or Blues Guitar for Adults. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good, January 26, 2002

I've taught beginners using several "method" books (Mel Bay, Bay and Christianson, Leavitt's Berklee series), and I've currently settled on this one. While I'd prefer not using tablature as a crutch, many students refuse to learn standard notation. Vecchio's book has both, so the motivated student can learn standard notation. Additionally, students respond better to modern material than "Wildwood Flower" or the dreaded "Fourth String Study". The combination of flatpick and fingerstyle is also a nice touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for first time players, March 7, 2009
This review is from: Beginning Guitar for Adults (Paperback)
Before I picked up this book, I knew nothing about guitars. After finishing it, I can now play the basic riffs to a lot of my favorite songs. The great thing is that it gets you playing and understanding chords really fast. If you want to learn sheet music notation or just use tabs that make it easy for anyone to start playing (like me), I definitely recommend starting with this book. It starts out simple but keeps pushing you to add together everything you've learned. Before you know it you're playing songs you've heard for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book will make you a rock star, March 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Beginning Guitar for Adults (Paperback)
I'm currently using this book to learn guitar from scratch. It's really well paced. Each lesson is challenging, but not impossible by any means. My only criticism is that I wish the examples included familar songs. That would make practice much more fun. Also, there's a typo on page 68.
