5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the beginner.
After finishing the first skim through, I was intrigued enough to go out and buy a growing unit. I ordered the one and planted the seeds they included. Then I reread the book again so I knew what to watch for and what to do. It was amazing! Here in California in the middle of winter and el nino and almost freezing temperatures the seeds sprouted in 11 days...outside on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beginner's Guide indeed
Not knowing what Hydroponic Gardening was all about I bought this book and one other. This is indeed a beginner's book. It will awaken you to Hydroponic Gardening and let you in on many of the ways to accomplish it; in concept more than practice. It was not an inspiring book to me but I did like the History of Hydroponics section although it was only 3 pages. This book...

This book is an overview. I wouldn't go into Hydroponic Gardening without another, more in-depth book. It is a great book to find out if your even remotely interested in Hydroponics. The author is matter-of-fact in his writing and adds nothing to the facts to liven things up. On the other hand, there is no fluff and filler in the book. All in all I give it three stars because it got me started learning about Hydroponic Gardening.

3.0 out of 5 stars As it says..., August 1, 2004

It is a beginner's introduction to hydroponics. While it is an exceptionally good overview and a great place to begin studying the topic, it is by no means a canon on the topic. Grab this book, read it cover to cover, photocopy it's tables to tack to the wall in whatever area you do your plant working. It will give you a skeleton, but your flesh is earned via experience and communicating with other gardeners, especially in better hydroponics forums on the internet.

These forums, however, can be confusing without the background provided by books such as this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, April 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Beginning Hydroponics Revised Ed (Paperback)
What I was expecting was a guide on how I could start/build/create a hydroponic garden from scratch. What i got was a simpletons generic, vague something that really taught me nothing. I don't need the history of it, or the theories behind it. The title said 'simplified workbook' but it taught me nothing, I'm at square one which is "how do I build and start a hydroponic garden? What supplies and where do I get them?"

4.0 out of 5 stars A little help for my Greenhouse Business!, February 11, 2001
This review is from: Beginning Hydroponics Revised Ed (Paperback)
Good growing information but lacks details. Not a complete guide but worth the price for sure. I got a few good ideas from this one, making it a worthy purchase. Another book for learning the most up to date hydroponic methods is my favorite, "Secrets to a Successful Greenhouse and Business".

I am no difinative writer on the subject of hydroponics, but after reading the material and seeing the sources used in the book, the authors he frequently quotes are very well informed themselves but he doesn't even quote their best concepts. I knew of, and had read some of the authors quoted, and in seeing what the author of this book transposed, there was very little that was clearly defined. Also, the images meant to instruct and help could have been much better in my opinion. This was not a great investment in my opinion. I am not an ill intentioned person, but this book did not help me much in my curiosity about the science of the subject or the practical application. Very wordy, and unconclusive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basics explained well, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Beginning Hydroponics Revised Ed (Paperback)
If you want to understand the very basics of hydroponics, this may be the one. This is a no frills book. Author's purpose is to introduce you to hydroponics, nutrients, various methods in practice and get you started with your first plant. He has succeeded in that.

After reading this book, you will know enough to be dangerous, for sure :)

I will definitely recommend this book.
