Really sweet mid-90's acid/nu-jazz,
By Metacortex "Synapse" (New England, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beginning (Audio CD)
I'm not too surprised I'm the first (and only) reviewer for this obscure disc. Put out in 1995 by the Ubiquity label, it shows up at Amazon, Gemm, and The 'Bay here and there but can be expensive. Which is too bad since it's a great breath of jazzy fresh air, albeit a tad on the short side coming in at just under forty minutes for its four tracks. The sound is uptempo smooth jazz with an air of improv/jam if you will. They stretch out a bit, these guys, especially on the thirteen and a half minute "Weird Sisters". I think the sound is more a throwback to jazz of old than it is breaking new hot nu-jazz ground but that's certainly not a bad thing. I've played this on my radio program, Sundays at the house reading the paper, in the car. Fits well in all those areas/times. If you get the chance to pick up a copy for a good price and you like the likes of Julien Lourau, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Hugh Hopper, or Laurent DeWilde, then grab it.
